ok so i am new to this so forgive me if i dont do or say something correctly.. I am currently banded but going in on the 16th March to have it removed and a sleeve revision done later in the year but I am so worried I am doing the wrong thing, I have been following a lot of posts over the last year and doing lots of research but i guess what I am asking for is the reassurance that the sleeve is so much better than the band.. would love to hear from others that had the revision and why?? cheers

I am one week post op and I revised from the band to the sleeve, the pain was not that bad, the incisions hurt a little more because they have to cut a little bigger to remove the band first, and then do the sleeve. Today I have slight pain from the incisions. The restriction feeling does not bother me, because I was already used to the lapband. The weight loss is much better than the band, I had my band four years, lost 71 pounds on it, and gained back about 35. I was 230 on the preop diet before the sleeve, 220, before surgery, and at one week I am moving toward 200. There will be some heatburn, nausea, but i felt that with the sleeve for years. I think you are making a good decision.

As a sleeve only patient, may I ask why you are waiting later in the year to have the sleeve revision done? I personally would be concerned with the amount of scarring that would be involved (not to mention the pain of being cut on three times instead of two).

I revised from my Lap Band to the VSG on 9/15/10. I am doing outstanding and I was able to reach my final goal in just over 10 months.

There are so many benefits that I've found regarding having my sleeve rather than my band, but I think the greatest one is the freedom to live my life! No fills/unfills, port pain, stuck food, soft food syndrome, slimies, tight/loose effects.. none of that. Sorry to say but I do NOT miss the lap band.

:) All the best to you!

thankyou so much for your answers,, the reason I have to wait to get revised is because that what the doctor wont do removal and sleeve at the same time, apparantly more complications and risks of leaks,, if i could have it all done at once i would and save going under again,, but only have to wait 8weeks in between so not that bad really..very excited and scared at the same time...

It is better than they say. I had my band for over 2 years and even though I lost weight I was constantly going to the doctor to have the fill adjusted and finally I just stopped losing weight and was at the maxium fill. I was also constantly vomiting when eating food as due to the high fill foods would not go through. I wish that I had never heard of a lapband and had the sleeve initially.
