Back Home To Harney County

Yesterday, I flew home to Redmond, closest airfield to Home Town.... I greeted my husband after being gone 11 days from home, he smiled, gave me a superficial kiss and began to question why I didn't just have my 47 lb bag as a carry on. I explained it was too heavy for me to cart across the airports to the 3 planes I had to board and unboard...more convienience and the fact it would have been hard on my incisions.

I was wiped out, I got a little clastraphobic on one of the flights and had a back cramp most of the leg...glad was only 55 min flight. anyway, I do suggest for any WLS patient...check your bag...get wheel chair assistance....and if you choose to take your vita water or reg water or drink with you...tell them it is "medical needed" they will test the drink but will allow you to carry it on.... (Tip from airline asst.).

Arrived to a nice clean and made bed at my daughters home. Fell asleep and slept all night long. Woke to my little grandson (6 yrs) starring at my belly....afraid to ask but non the less carefull and curious. He said to me..."Grama, papa says you can only eat 2 bites before you are full", I said yes papa is right...he said then how are you gonna stay alive?...I told him it would be plenty and the great thing about this whole deal is now we get to share our meals for real. He was excited you mean you'll eat my brocolli off my plate???

Then came my shower of the day, both grandbabies were so interested in the incisions and especially the one they couldn't see (drain port)..so I told them as soon as I showered and was ready to put the bandages on I would call them...this was like waiting for Christmas...they were yelling outside the bathroom....Grama can we see your hole yet? well not the calmest shower I've had but showed them and they were done being so darn curious. Cute little babies anyhow.

We took off toward home and 27 miles out, my husband pulls over our Expedition and said, I'm to tired to drive you'll have to...so I got out and moved to the drivers seat where I continued to drive 103 miles to home, while he slept.

I dropped hubby off at home and agreed to take the 2nd car as he had stuff he needed out of the big rig. I went to work to catch up on what I had missed throughout the past 2 weeks...I did go and get myself a bowl of chicken broth and it was so good...I also grabbed an iced tea...

went to grocery store got some progressive soup and waters...took my son with me and while shopping he says to me...."don't tell dad, but he says you can't do this" I said do what lose the weight? he said "yes, dad says "you'll always be fat." I said to my young son 12 yrs. old...."Son this is why I have a separate suport system" because dad won't be supportive and not sure he really cares at this point." "Son, I want you to know I am committed to losing weight so I can do more things with you and with the grandbabies."

Anyway, nothing goes by without missing a beat....family asks me..."What's for dinner mom?" They had turkey hamburgers, I will have soup and Jello.

I weighed tonight, and I'm down 17 lbs since surgery... not sure where the weight has dropped but my guess is my fingers and wrists... I will write more later, Good luck to you all who are considering or recovering from WLS!

I think the ugliest chunk of fat that you need to lose is your husband.

This journey is difficult enough WITH family support.

Keep a stiff upper lip. It sounds like you're tough enough to handle it if you have this long. Best of luck.

It's horrible that your husband thinks so little of you! For one I work for an airline and carry-on bags cannot weigh over 35lbs....two I don't think you should have been driving yet..especially that far. I hope everything is going well. I get sleeved on april 9th and my mom is to get sleeved after her six month supervised diet..so I will be her test subject and she will be my support plus my husband and teenager daughter are behind me on this. I am glad you will also have this site as a very big support team cheering all the way to your goal.

I'm sorry your husband isn't being very supportive. It's really awful of him to say such things to your children. i agree with topgun comment. I hope it gets better. 17 lbs down is wonderful!!!

I just read that in disbelief. Why is your husband so unsupportive? You drove 103 miles while he slept? I am so mad right now! You know, some men have great insecurities. My ex use to tell me that no one would love me like he does...I use to smile on the inside, because it only meant he was insecure, though he was very convinced I wouldn't leave...until I did. I know it's hard when you are married, but you may seriously want to consider whether its a healthy relationship for you to be in. I can just see him trying to sabotage your weight loss by bringing around unhealthy foods.

You are doing this for you, please continue and know that we are here to support you. You can do this!!

Time 2 Lose...you are so right...I was angry all the way home, that I could have drove myself and not wasted his time my gas and driven myself home if I had only known (hind sight is 20/20).

I do not plan to allow him to sabbatage....although it has already started....donuts, pie, desserts...etc....("oh but "mom" can't have them" with a little snicker). I have been married to this man for 20 years... we have one child left at home....I married him weighing 130 lbs...and in prime physical shape (softball player & a Dancer).

I am going to work really hard not to take things he says personally...I will spend my time pouring myself into exercise and the family unit will have to buck up and help take care of themselves. (while I eat my broth)...LOL

I am so feeling healthy and getting back to work helps and digging out my old skinnier fat clothes has been like a new wardrobe...Love it!

Top Gun...you made my whole year...I laughed till my incisions hurt....loved it!

Ready for a change....yes maybe in more ways than one!

Down 19.5 lbs since surgery...

Don't get me wrong...my husband has been unsupportive...but I WILL NOT let this hamper my SUCCESS for ME. I want to be a healthier mom and a hottie grandma...I love my grandbabies and I want to be healthier so I too can play at the park without huffing and puffing and tired....I NO LONGER WISH TO SIT AND WATCH....I WANT TO PLAY TOO!

And yes this is super therapy

I have two words for you honey "quiet resolve".

Focus on you right now, get healthy and get in touch with your goals of having fun with those kiddies. You are 110% worth it!! All I know is that I've met you and if anyone is capable and strong enough to handle this treatment physically and mentally - it's you. When you are feeling good about your self you might make other decisions about the role that he plays in your life however not is not the time. Just make sure that you don't carry the heaviness of his statements on your back, you don't need that and I know you and you are strong enough to just brush it off while taking note of it. Folks always say not to make too many big decisions all at one (ie job loss, divorce, death etc I would put WLS right up there as well).

Take the good that he has to give and brush off the bad not letting it affect you and you'll be fine.

Love ya,

Lisa

So true Ms. Lisa....so true...I do love him and I spoke with you about how our relationship status was when we were in Mexico....so not super new, I didn't expect a full change over night. You are definately right in that I am Strong enough to make the healthy choices for me and my kids and grandbabies...they are going to have a fun and active grama...just wait and we'll see.

I think when he see's a visual change and an emotional change in me....maybe he will decide it is time to get on board and be supportive. His sister-in-law had the full RNY several yrs back and has regained some of her weight and he just isn't a believer ustil he see's it in black and white

Did ya get the pic? I had redone for us I sent it directly to your email....maybe in a yr or so we'll have to reconnect in the middle for a WLS reunion....would be fabulous to reconnect.

Call or email anytime...I'm down 19.5 as of this morning.

Love ya, Good Luck Losing,

Jan
