Sabatoge Or Love

Its been 3 months and 33 pounds down since by sleeve. I feel its going slow. but I am in the mind of slow and steady wins the race. As long as the number and my size continues to go down I am happy. However, I wonder if my family is as supportive as they say they are. Yesterday my hubby, a bit overweight himself, proudly bought in a platter full of chocolate and vanila cupcakes. These cupcakes were given to him by a mom he teaches karate to. This lady often gives my hubby backed goods, which in itself is another topic.

 

When presented with this plate full of goodies, I asked, "Dear why would you not leave those in your dojang (karate school), there is a fridge there and you could share those with your students and other moms", to this he replied, "I thought you'd like some". Then began the discussion of my journey to a smaller, healthier, happier me, which did not include a plate full of cupcakes.

 

No sooner did I finish that discussion with hubby and he agreed to leave these goodies from where they came. My son came home and happily presented me with a large chocolate chip cookie from the place he works. I LOVE LOVE those cookies and had not had one in a very very long time. So as I was eating that delicious cookie (I had lost all will power at that time), I had to explain to my son, Ilove you for thinking of me, you know how much I LOVE LOVE these cookies, but please don't bring anymore home. I have no will power against these and really want to complete my weight loss journey.

 

Now. I ask you is this sabatog? Does my hubby and son (the only other two living in the house at this time), want me to go back to the old ways. Maybe they were happier when I was brining in these type of goodies. I must admit the pantry is no longer stocked with chips, cookies, brownies etc. Now they find more fruits and veggies and anything no carb I can find to snack on. Maybe they really want things back the way they were?

People can do things without meaning to, but when someone brings you cupcakes knowing what they do, then yes you have to ask some questions - it sounds very passive aggressive to me.

The main thing is to be assertive - I recently had an aquaintance throw away a dozen cupcakes her hubby brought in and he said "why did you do that?!" and she said "because I told you I would". he had bringing "treats" in for himself - not the two or three cupcakes he would have ate, and not putting them somewhere she would not need to come across - but a dozen or more, and on the counter near her foods. So she stepped up and threw them out - opened the box and dumped them into the trash.

We can't compromise on ourselves, and we cannot allow others to do so either. Nope. Nada. shhhh. don't argue.

I think at this point, it was just love. They can't possibly understand your train of thought and focus - they're not there.

I think if they continue to do it after you have asked them not to and given them a valid reason, then it might be sabotage.

There can be a happy medium with "sweets" - its just a matter of making them differently - using agave or stevia for sweetner, using black beans in brownies instead of so much flour. However, YOU have to be ready for that. You're not depriving them of these items - they can go anywhere and have them at any time :)

My fiance brings sweets into the house all the time. But thankfully I have the willpower to say no. At first I thought it was sabotage but then I thought he has always eaten junk food. I look at it as the sleeve was my decision and therefore it is my responsibility and I can't expect him to diet with me. I did tell him not to offer me any because he knows my fght.

It's a struggle and a difficult one. I pray you stay strong and your family takes into consideration the goal you are trying to reach and help with more healthy food choices for you and them.

Old habits are hard for the whole family to break. These things have been loving in the past. Be patient with them but communicate that these things make it hard for you to get healthy. This has been hard for our family too.
