Im Scared, Pre-op

So I have done all of the pre-op requirments and am just waiting on insurance's approval for the surgery. I must admit, there are days that I think, "what am I doing?!" I hear and read horror stories about nausea after the sleeve, leaking suture lines, and bowel obstructions. I just had a co-worker tell me about a friend of his who said they were more miserable after the surgery because of all of the excess skin he now has. I dont even know if I should believe this, knowing how hard it is to walk around in a 300 pound body. Is there anyone out there who regrets their bariatric surgery?

I know youre scared but surgery has helped thousands of people. The risk is less than 1 percent of something going wrong. The risk of weighing 300 and living is much higher. Everyone of us want to live a better life, that is why we are doing this , to LIVE ! People want to bring us down for what ever reason. This is our well thought out and researched decision. I believe the Lord brought me to this place and he will take me where I need to go. Be strong and LIVE!

It's normal to have some fear pre-op. I know I did, but you need to weigh the risks for you. Weighing 300 pounds is taking away your quality of life, and it 100% poses HUGE risks for your health. There's a 1 in 1000 chance of major complications with this surgery, IIRC.

You need to weigh one against the other and decide what you want to do. I'd rather have some loose skin, that I can have removed if I wish, versus carrying 170 extra pounds that I can't have removed.

Good luck with your journey!! :)

I am 5 days out of being sleeved. I have not been nauseous once. I was very nervous before surgery which was normal. I had never had surgery or been under before that is what I was scared off. Well it was nothing to be scared off. I have 2 incision on my stomach that are about an inch wide and one in my belly button. Maybe my dr thought one day I would want to wear a bikini. LOL NOT. The only thing I did have was gas pains and heartburn but that lasted maybe for 2 days. Now that I am drinking clear liquids and protein shakes I want more. I feel hungry. I am not sure if it is in my mind or what. it is not like I am starving just empty feeling. BUT I WOULD NOT BE AFRAID. It will be fine. Good luck

You wouldnt be human if you didnt feel some fear. Im approx 16 days post surgery and I can tell you I was scared stiff of having this procedure. Its a huge decision to make but you must look at the way you live your life now and look at how you want to live your life in the future. I want to go to the beach, run around with my kids, feel happy and confident, feel healthy and energetic, wear beautiful clothes. You know what, if you have a bit of spare skin after youve lost weight then just tuck it in!!!! hehe Id rather have some hanging skin than all the other negative things that come with being Obese.

I stayed in hospital for 3 nights as I found it hard to get any fluid into me and I had severe reflux but that has now calmed greatly and I am on reflux medication. I will not sugar coat this, it is hard, its an entire lifestyle change, My lifetime of bad habits are gone in the physical sense, as in I cannot physically eat like I used to and use food for bordem, depression or anything else but It dosnt mean that my mind has caught up to my body. My desire for the food is still there, not as much because I have no physical hunger but I could kill for a steak right now. The hard work is the mind. I have a long long way to go its only day 16 but I dont regret the surgery I can already see the results. Just be kind to yourself and make sure you have some support after surgery even if you find a councellor that specialises. My surgeon has a program so after surgery you see dietician, exercise specialist and councellor for like 6 months post surgery.

Dont be scared be excited, your new life is just around the corner. Best of luck to you

We were all nervous, that's normal. I was especially nervous going to Mexico for surgery, but it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I feel like I have a whole new life and I'm loving every minute of it. I had no pain, no gas, felt like I didn't even have surgery.

I went through the exact same thing. I spent months fighting to get qualified and the split second I got approved I had a brief moment of happiness and was then filled with dread. I was afriad of complications. I was afraid I would be the only person the sleeve wouldn't work for.....I was afraid of a lot of things.

I am 18 weeks out now. My one and only regret is that I didn't do this sooner.

I am so glad you posted this blog... I am scared too, surgery is next tues... the thing is I already had a banding that slipped, so I kind of have been through this already... people think I am crazy for doing it again, but I never achieved the goal I was looking for. My doc suggested the sleeve and I have been researching and it seems like it is the answer... just a little more invasive... i am very new to this website and trying to navigate through it, but glad i found it... heres to hoping for the best! :)

I am 2 days out of being sleeved and the taste of the protein shake makes me want to vomit. I was hospitalized for 3 days because my blood pressure was high. I have not been in pain. I have had some serious bloating and gas pains. I am walking to help with this feeling. Good Luck

Hi all! I havent been back on here for awhile! I had my sleeve on Feb 1, and I have felt GREAT since then. I should have been on here with everyone in the past 27 days, but boy how time flies! Obviously I was nervous before the surgery, but so far NO PROBLEMS! I have had 2 episodes of nausea, that lasted just a few minutes- I believe it was spasms. To those out there who are nervous pre-op, its normal to be nervous. I was young, healthy, and had no chronic health issues so my surgery went well. I am extremly thankful for that. I currently have only a couple of issues (they r extremely minor) related to food intake, other than that- no real complaints!!! :)
