Why All Of The Sudden I Cannot Keep Anything Down?

The past couple of days I have not been able to keep any solid foods down. Seems the moment I swallow I need to rush to the bathroom and discard my food. I am ok with drinking liquids but other than that its been tough. Anyone else who has gone through this? Would love some suggestions.

Well, how long ago did you have the surgery? I noticed today that several things I ate made me feel like vomitting, got the watery mouth feeling - stood over sink - but nothing. I have not gotten sick at all in the 5 weeks since my surgery. And these were things I have eaten before, oatmeal...

Maybe something is stuck?

Hi Maddy;

You need to contact your surgeon. Any sudden change needs to be checked out. I had this happen about three months out and needed to be seen. I was not getting enough liquids although I thought I was and my BloodPressesr turned out to be really low. So maybe you need to adjust your intake? Are you have trouble with all kinds of foods? Try something soft - eggs still make me sick.

TiffanyC - sounds like you have the slimez. This is happens to some of us post sleevers within the first few months of being sleeved. For most sleevers this response goes away. This was my first "full" signal that my new tummy had enough. OrgeonDaisy still has this response at 2 plus years out. My slimez when away eventually. Now I sneeze when I am full (crazy huh?) Slow down.

Maddy good luck and let us know how you are doing.

How far out are you? I had a kink in my sleeve, a small hole, a stricture, increased swelling among other things and around the 5th week I could no longer keep anything down. It seems it was mostly the excess swelling that caused it. Surgeons are unsure why it happens with some people though and generally see it let up around week 6-7, which it did for me.

Regardless it is a good idea to contact your surgeon to make sure nothing else is going on.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am five months since the surgery. It just started from nowhere. One day all was good then bam it started. I did call my surgeon today and we talked about my options. Going to do soft Mushy foods for a week, continue drinking protein drinks and stay away from firm foods. I am not vomiting liquids just foods. Dr Misra ( my excellent surgeon) feels nothing is wrong. But she is watching me closely to see how I am everyday. Tonite I was able to eat soft mash potatoes and egg beaters. Amen no vomittting.

You are all so amazing thanks so much for your advice.

Not crazy at all! Awhile back I went on a research bender about the vagus nerve when I noticed that I was sometimes getting this feeling of extreme nausea -- watery mouth and everything -- and then I would sneeze, and felt immediately better. Apparently the vagus nerve goes from your head all the way down to your stomach, and some branches go even further into your genitals. This nerve is separate from the normal parasympathetic system and currently there is some weight-loss research being done on the effects of blocking vagus nerve signals from the stomach.

Apparently the whole sneezing-when-nauseous thing is pretty common.
