I Gained .4 Lbs!

I can't believe I gained .4 lbs this week. It's been 5 weeks since my surgery and this past week was the first time I was able to eat some solid foods. I didn't think I overdid it since the minute I felt full I would either stop eating or my body would stop me from eating any more but I guess I was wrong. I have to admit that I am disappointed because I've lost 25 pounds since my surgery and the pounds have been coming off consistently each week. I keep reading that I need to get at least 800 calories in and I know that hadn't happened until this week but maybe I need less calories. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for having lost as much as I have in such a short amount of time, I just want to make sure I'm moving in the right direction. Any advice out there?

I would say it is probably because you switched to solid foods and your body is not used to them right now. Don't be discouraged!... your weight fluctuates from day to day. I would put the scale away for a little while until your body adjusts to the change in food. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement!! It's amazing how such a small gain can lead to a huge disappointment. You're right though! i'm going to get back on track and keep on working towards my goal weight. ;-)

I weigh once a month otherwise I would drive myself crazy with things like this. Our bodies are in a state of vast changes right now. You have to know this. Just be confident that if you do what you are supposed to do: get your protein, carbs, liquids ... excercise, sleep ... the weight will come off. It has to. You don't need less calories, you need more. Otherwise your body will go into starvation mode. I eat as often as I can getting about 1,000 calories a day and I am losing. I weigh myself on the 20th of each month and I see change on the scale and how my clothes fit. Women, I think, especially should weigh themselves monthly. Because of exactly what you are going through. Women have far more factors for retention issues.

You will lose weight. Don't drive yourself crazy. It will happen. 800 calories in, 2,000 calories out. Do you really think your body can sustain that? What about if you add exercise and get that up to 3,000 calories out? What do you think will happen then? Just don't drop your calories in.

Yes, do not weight too often. I mean you just had surgery and your body is still in shock. Plus you are changing from one type of diet to another. We can not hold as much food as we used to so you are GOING to lose! Guaranteed! .4 could just be from fluids, or diet change or salt intake.

Be encouraged!

We are making this happen!

Thanks to everyone who commented. I was totally discouraged but I think I'm getting a good grip on things now. I lost 1 lb this week and after reading I decided that I should only weigh once a month. Weekly weigh ins add too much pressure!! I started taking the acid reducer medication and thankfully the gas pains and the bloated feelings are happening less and less. I feel better but am still careful about what I'm eating. I feel encouraged by all the comments and will keep going! Thanks again y'all!!!
