learning that my stomach is different

well my surgery went off very well. i had no hernia, and my gallbladder didnt need to be removed. the whole surgery took less then 45 minutes. i felt great 2 hours post op. the doc gave me plenty of drugs to zap the pain away. then yesterday sucked bad! i was in more pain then the first day. the doc switched my pain meds again, and i am feeling better again. i am currently awaiting a leak test. i thought that i was going to get one yesterday automatically, but apparently my doc only has you do it if you have excess pain post op like im having. i have a high threshold for pain meds. what most people take to knock them out makes me wired. so they should be in here soon for the swallow test, and then hopefully i will be able to be discharged today (early)

So im just wandering is neck pain after this surgery normal? ive heard of shoulder pain from gas, but i havent had that, as a matter of fact i havent had any gas at all. no farts he he :)

i didnt realize how different my stomach was going to be after the surgery. i think that i sugar coated the procedure for myself. . i swallowed my water way to fast, as well as my broth and it hurt bad. it also made me burp and then have the hicups. that one sucked hard, lesson learned.

well im gonna try to catch some z's before the swallow test c u l8er!!

the 2 days after surgery I had that pain every time i swallowed too much. It goes away, but it does teach you how to drink. Learn to listen to your new stomach. It took me over a week to figure out that i'm full when I start to hiccup. The sooner you can figure out your tell the better when you start moving into non liquid foods.

Good luck and feel free to follow my blog for details or questions! Always up for answering what I can.

Also check out the World According to EggFace her blog and recipes are awesome!!! Especially the protein shakes. I just got my sugar free Torani syrups yesterday!!!

Had surgery on Thursday the 4th. I didn't drink or eat anything to speak of for three days. On Saturday the doctor was ready to release me but I opted for another day and he had the IV pulled and that changed everything, after that I was ready to drink.

Now at two week mark and I have no problem taking large swallows of liquids the puree food I sometimes overdo but not reflux. Just take it slow.

It will get better soon, I am already taking in more dense things like cottage cheese, poached and soft scrambled eggs and plain Greek yogurt with cranberry juice for flavor.

Good luck on your journey.

i know! last night i tried to drink 1/4 cup of protein drink. i sipped it slowly, but when i finished i felt like throwing up, i actually gagged. i hurried and crushed up a nausea pill and licked it up. it helped me really quick to not throw up, but i think i am gonna stick to 1/8th of a cup for a while now because i dont ever want to feel like that again!

hiccups are so scarry for me, i am so scarred that i am gonna rip my tummy open. i thought you got hiccups after eating to fast, but ive never eaten so slow in my life! what the heck?

hey any advice my surgery is in 2 weeks .....my work is only allowing me to be off from work for 5 days... I am really tough, had a hysterectomy and gall bladder removal at the same time and since i had so little pain i left the hospital 2 hours after my surgery , took tylenol for a week and wentt back to work after 10 days. I am thinking this surgery must be a lot less painful than that one and that one really wasn't bad. I am wondering if i will be able to drink enough during work hours.......hoping i won't be nauseated at work....i have already been dieting and have lost 17 pounds on my own the last 2 months and i am on a high protein low carb diet now, but i know it will be completely different after i am sleeved. how long before u were all ready to return to work?

well this surgery was way easier than my tubaligation that i had in 03. mind you the doc cut me as big as a c section for it, but as far as going back to work after 5 days i think that it is totally duable. i would be able to go back to work today if i had to. but my job is an easy one; if your involves heavy lifting and such then i wouldnt recommend it. if its a desk job i think the only thing that you will really struggle with is staying awake. everyone is different though but from what you have told me i think you have a pretty high pain tolerance.

i didnt have any nausea, but i make sure to take my anti nausea pills every 6 hours just in case. i think its great that you have lost so much so far. since you still have 2 weeks i totally recomend staying on that liquid diet for the whole time. the more that you lose pre op the faster you will recover post op. also keep walking as much as possible. it will help you after the surgery as well. if you can get up as soon as possible. i was walking before 2 hours after my surgery and it felt great to get up and walk. it releaved the pressure on my tummy. as far as pain meds. make sure to tell them if your pump isnt cutting it. most people dont realize it but you can ask for something else as well so that you wont be in any pain. they gave me demerol and it was great! it actually speeds up the recovery process, because the less pain that you are in the more active you can be and the more active the more blood flow and the more blood flow the faster you heal. my insicions are almost healed already. they look like little cat scratches right now. i hope this helps. good luck with your diet, and then the surgery, keep me posted. :D

Sneezing sucks the worst! Your incisions will not rip open. I have staples in mine and can't wait to get them out on 8/24.
