I had my surgery May 2 and I am going back to work May 31. My surgeon suggested at least three weeks if I had the time available. So I am taking three weeks plus the week of surgery. I am really glad I did. The surgery and anesthesia takes more out of you than you think. I haven't really had any pain issues at all, but I am still very tired. Just in the past couple days have I started trying to get out of the house and go somewhere (other than just walking down my street).

I have a pretty sedentary job as an administrative assistant at a surgeon's office.

Not only does your body need time to heal, but you need time to adjust to your new eating habits.

i was wonering the same thing. I am scheuled for june 8th. i guess i will take 4-5 weeks.

My dr made me take a week off, but I was ready to go back after the 3rd day. I am a teacher, so my job is not very physical. I am 3 weeks out and just feel tired, but no pain.

I am taking 1 week off and the second week I want to be on half days. My surgeon said he would give me 3 weeks if I needed it though.

BTW I have a sedatary job - budget analyst. So no heavy lifting or anything to worry about. I just have to get up and walk every hour.

My surgeon will give me up to 4 weeks off and I'm going to take them. I am a hair stylist and my job can be very physically demanding. A former coworker of mine had R&Y done a few years ago and she had a really hard time coming back to work after surgery. Work was so exhausting for her at first, and she took 4 weeks off. I think it really depends on what you do. One person I know said her energy didn't come back till she was 6 weeks out. I've had people in my support group say they only needed 2 weeks. They must have desk jobs.

Plus I want to use my time off to really cement all the habits I will need to be successful after surgery. My work schedule is so inconsistent that I can't do that while working.

I am taking 7 work days off. That will give me a total of 11 days off work (including the weekends). I have a desk job.

I will not be having my sleeve done till Nov/Dec but I already know I will be off at least 6 weeks. I work third shift in a hospital, 12 hr shifts, doing xrays and cat scans, which is very physical. for 12 hrs I push stretchers back and forth and I also have to push and pull on VERY heavy patients all night.
