This is my first post and I'm a new member today. My date for my surgery is January 18th. I began this journey last summer and started with the 6 counseling sessions that BCBS requires. When I was on my 3rd visit I found out that my husbands insurance was changing in 2011 and gastric bypass was no longer going to be covered. I was only going to be able to complete 4 of the 6 dietician visits so they would not approve the surgery. On the same day I found out that my own companies insurance was changing and taking out the surgery for 2011. I cried a lot that day. After a lot of soul searching and taking with my husband, I have decided to go ahead with the surgery and pay for it out of pocket. I'm worried about spending my families money and possibly failing. On the other hand, I want to become healthier for myself and family so the money doesn't matter. I've been overweight my whole adult life. I've done a lot of the diets and can lose weight but don't really change my habits so I gain it all back and more. I need a healthy lifestyle change that will last a lifetime.

Oh my gosh, Jen, that is a heartbreaking story. Shame on those insurance companies! I wish you the best of luck. You are making the right decision. Your health and the years you add on to your life by eliminating the obesity is well worth any amount, right? I am one week post op sleeve surgery so I can't rave yet about the success but I am down 9 pounds so am hopeful. Good Luck!

Hi Nikki - Thanks for the comments. Good Luck with your surgery. Are you nervous about doing the 10 day liquid protein diet? Where are you from?

Hi Jen11, it sounds like you just had the procedure recently. How is everything going for you? I started my first blog last night and I am just starting this journey. I am also paying out of pocket, so it was a big deal in so many ways to go through with this. I can't wait!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.

And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
