I am 50 and very tired of being Fat. My wife is perfect in every way and Loves me to death even tho I am large and she is (Perfect). I am scheduled for the Sleeve on 2/24/2010 and I have been told I am going to have a diet approx 2 weeks prior to this. What exactly is the diet, I don't want to wait to get it and want my surgery to be the best it can be. Is it low carb kinda like the Adkins diet? Any help out there.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum PtoS. Gratz on your date. I am still learning about the diet prior to surgery myself. I have seen a few different ones...it has been based a lot on your doctors wishes for you - some are conservative and some are aggressive. Good luck on your research, diet, and surgery...the people here are fantastic and very supportive.

The diet consist of Carnation Instant breakfast Sugar Free, fat free milk, sugar free low calorie pudding, Sugar free jello, and some other sugar free low carb shakes!!!! That is all you are allowed to eat for two weeks! It's hard, but it will help shrink your liver and stomach fat for surgery, you will also heal much faster doing this diet first! Good luck!!!

The pre op diet depends on the surgeon. Some of us only had to do an Atkins type, low carb/ high protein diet and others had a liquid diet of protein shakes, depending on how much weight pre-op and again what the surgeon wants. Mine was the low carb one and was very doable for me, (one week). It is very important to follow their orders to help your surgery risks.

Thanks Shawna for the update.... I keep reading about getting protein - I assume that means after the surgery not before? I know I should just wait for the Doc to tell me exactly but as with everything I am all in.

Welcome! Good luck with the pre-op process. Yes, the diet depends on the you and your surgeon. Keep us posted on how things progress.
