So, most of you that follow, and lurk my blog know that we want to have a baby. I am hellbent on quitting smoking, but have failed with the cold turkey attempts, and the patches/gum make me even more irritable/hateful.

I just called and scheduled an appointment with my PCM to look into Zyban. It's essentially Wellbutrin, but the dose can be tailored for smoking cessation. I want to quit, but fear really consumes me.

I'm not really afraid of anything except finding myself in the fridge/pantry and then snacking. I haven't battled a lot of head hunger, and honestly think it's because I smoke about 1/2 pack a day. I know I had surgery to improve my healthy/life, and smoking is just counterproductive.

I've never taken an anti-depressant. The side-effects scare the heebies out of me, and I don't want to fail.

I just want to quit smoking. Our insurance does not cover Chantix, I've called and confirmed with 4 different reps in 4 different departments to ensure that it is NOT covered.

I'll find out on Friday morning if I'm a good canidate for Zyban. I'll admit that I am scared.

But, if it can be a tool to help me kick this nasty habit, I'm willing to give it a try.

I quit smoking with wellbutrin (genric - Brupropion). In the past i had always been able to quit going cold turkey and later with the patch but nothing worked to reduce the cravings like welbutrin. After a couple of weeks of taking it, you no longer get the satisfied feeling from smoking. You'll still smoke but you dont get the same payoff. My doctor wanted me to use the patch in conjuction with the meds and ween myself over a course of 6 months but after 3 (and not using the patch) i was ready to stop smoking. I struggled just a bit with the physical craving but after the nicotine was out of my system, it was a peice of cake.

I am not going to say that i havent smoked since becuase i have. at first, in social situations, with a drink in my hand, it wasnt the same without a cig. but as time went on, I was able stop that as well.

Good for you girl. I don't smoke, but my friend did quit on Zyban. My sister though, (a pack plus per day smoker for 20 + years) Was able to quit with Chantix. She still struggles but it is so do-able. Good Luck girl, we're rootin for ya!!
