Protein woes

I've tried the orange and strawberry of the Chike samples I ordered, and neither of them work for me. I'm at my wit's end. I just don't know what to do. I think I'm going to have to order or buy at GNC an unflavored powder and mix it with SF pudding, or something. I can't keep going without, my body is going to start really suffering.

I'm half tempted to go back to the bullets, and mix them with a popsicle. Even though they aren't the highest quality of protein at least it would be some sort of protein. My mother uses them and swears by them. I just can't tolerate the taste, and the gas that follows.

I'm so scared of my hair falling out completely. I have a lot of hair, and it thinning a little wouldn't bother me, but I'm getting paranoid at this point.

Eating is such a chore for me at this point. I know it will get better, but I'm frustrated. I need to really focus on eating, and really trying to in the minimum calories, and protein. Something has to give soon.

>I'm half tempted to go back to the bullets...

Hi, no advice here - only a question: what do you mean by the above statement?? Are you talking about a Magic Bullet blender system, or something else altogether?

I'm trying to build a list of what to have on hand for the first month, what protein drinks to try, etc.

Thanks, and good luck!

Sheri

I am so with you on the protein. Currently I'm using Chike orange. I'm putting half of a serving of the powder (the size of the sample), 1 cup of fat free lactaid milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar free vanilla and 1 tablespoon of sugar free orange syrup, and ice into a blender and mixing. I then put whip cream on top and have it like a shake. It's okay, but I'm only doing this every other day or so.

I did order some INSPIRE Protein Drink POM RAZZ SANGRIA from bariatriceating.com, but I haven't been able to convince myself to try it. I'm always just so disappointed.

Good luck! The bullets might be a good answer for you. If you do find something you like, let us know.

Epic failure today trying to mix the vanilla flavor with some greek yogurt. I have it in the freezer with hopes that if I make it like ice cream or frozen yogurt that I'll be able to tolerate the taste. I took 3 bites, and I wanted to throw up.

Any luck with protein yet? I tried the Inspire Sangria this morning and it was okay (the best non-milk one I've had). I mixed it with Crystal Light lemonade and it was a bit too much flavor. Tomorrow I'll try with just the half of cup of water they recommend. It's the only one I've tried (and there have been many) that does not have a strong protein smell to it.

I gave up on all protein powder mixes for the time being. I did have some bullets leftover in the fridge so I had one of them yesterday with a mushed up popsicle mixed with it. Least to say, I was able to drink it, and I didn't get horrific gas. I know the bullets are not the best quality protein, but it's something. I did buy some new pre-cut seasoned chicken from the deli section today, and I can eat a bunch of chicken.

That sounds like a good plan. I'm right there with you! I'm hoping to give up on protein supplements when I go to regular food. Tonight I'm drinking a Chike drink mixed with a half a cup of no sugar added ice cream and half cup of fat free milk. It still only came out 472 cal for the day and I'm at the point where I'm going to do what I need to get in my protein as long as I stay under the carb and calorie goal set by my nutritionist.

Hi guys,

Here's what I do...I get the chocolate protein shakes from Costco, they are really good, drink one of them in the morning and one at night and a protein bullet during the day, I just sip on it until I get it down. All that is around 100 grams. the costco shakes are 30 gr each. Why do you say the protein bullets aren't really good source of protein. When is says 42 grams of protein, isn't that what is means? I'm going today to get some powder to add to my hot cereal also..

The protein bullets are mainly a hydrolyzed collagenic protein. Which is not as high quality as soy or whey protein. It's 42 grams of protein, but there's a lot of controversy on the quality of the main protein. If I could tolerate any shakes, I would drink them, but shakes make me want to vomit. I haven't ever liked shakes even pre-op even regular ice cream milkshakes make me sick. Now they make me seriously just nauseous. I wish I could tolerate one of the 15 -16 different brands, but either I can stand the taste, or my stomach churns for hours after consuming the protein drinks. Luckily, I think I'm figuring out the eating thing, and am getting in my protein from food sources instead of relying on supplements. My surgeon really wants me eating my protein, and I agree with him. It just seems healthier. I'm 3 months out, and don't want to drink my protein for the rest of my life.
