This is so hard!!

So, banded a full month and feel like I'm all healed up (minus a weird really painful incision at port area that popped up all of a sudden) and this is so much harder than I thought!

I think I really need a fill because I can eat anything I want. I try not to ... But I think after a full month of not eating some foods, it's hard to keep things reasonable. I try to eat like a normal person ... but this is just so hard!!!

I do an excellent job of making sure I don't have junk food in my house ever, but yesterday at the store I bought some mini marshmallows. I don't know why I bought them. But I did. And then I ate too many. Way too many. I won't tell you how many.

I gained a pound back. Which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But I'm focused on right now - not the grand scheme! I want this weight gone and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I am desperately scared that I won't be able to make this work.

But I haven't even gotten a fill yet, so it is way too soon for that kind of thinking. I wish I had a fill appointment set, so I have some hope. I'll make one on Monday. In the mean time I will try to keep it positive!!

Congratulations on getting the band and starting a new journey. Are you getting enough protein in at every meal? Protein makes you full longer. I am far from perfect and never thought of eating anything not on my post op list because I was afraid I would do damage. Today is a new day, forget yesterday.

Maybe Monday call your dietitian and ask for help.

The hardest part of all of this is temptation. Once you can overcome temptation it gets significantly easier. We are all big for some reason or another, and we didnt get here by making great food choices. You have to learn to reset your mind. And it doesnt happen overnight. For some people surgery put their mind straight and they haven't deviated. Good for them , but that doesnt happen to all of us. Don't get discouraged.

I way I am learning to think of food is

1) why am I eating this? (hunger, boredom, ect)

2) what is the food giving my body? (Protien, vitamins, ect)

3) could I make a better choice

4) Will I feel guilty afterwards and is it worth it? (some times the answer is yes. For example I ate a cupcake, it was delicious, I am under my calorie count, and I only ate 1. Do I feel guilty. NOPE)

Your body is still healing dont focus on weight. You should focus on getting your mind right and letting your body heal. Weight loss will come

I had my first feel two weeks ago, believe me it has been an adjustment so to speak lol but your portions will go to about 3 ozs thats it , sometimes i wish i enjoyed it before my adjustment she actually didn't want to add anything because i lost 22lbs before my fill but i insisted because I was feeling anxious like yourself and didn't lose week 5, its a rollercoaster I just wish i didn't feel so frustrated about getting things down.....good luck

Don't feel bad for feeling hungry before your first fill. There's nothing in there to tighten you up right now! However, as Solrac Spree said, think about your choices. This isn't something that's a miracle cure, but it is definitely a useful tool to change your eating habits for the better and for life. A little dessert now and then will not hurt anyone, but you still have to be mindful or your portions. If you're just having a day where you're craving something bad for you, have a teeny bit, then distract yourself with something. Talk to a friend, exercise, clean the house, or just whatever you like to do. It helps to keep you from thinking about food. Honestly, though, you've only been banded a month. You're going to slip up. Don't beat yourself up over it. We're all either going through the same thing (I've been banded a week) or have been through it. Just be patient. The learning takes time!

ive been banded since july 16th and ive been eating too much. i get my 1st fill tomorrow the 12th of august. ive been having problems in the evening with my eating. im lonely and bored. dont have alot of friends anymore, and my husband works nites, but even when hes here , we seem to have so little in commom. whenever i suggest we do anything physical, he never ever wants to. i dont know, maaybe when i get back to work it will help. i wish i had a close friend going thru this with me so we could get together a couple times a week to strategize. if this works for me , itll be a miracle!
