Why, oh why do old habits die hard?

Why is it when I'm highly stressed, I go towards junk food. I did great all day until this afternoon when I got home from my parents house, for the 2nd time today.

As you may know, my dad is in stage 4 cancer, and while he's been one helluva trooper beating this cancer shi*, it's finally starting to take it's toll. He's starting to feel pain more often so the pain meds are getting stronger & given more often. He still looks strong, but we know the inevitable.

Anyway, I had to call Hospice, his Dr, then check on him, then go back when the Hospice Nurse got there, and make an apt for him to go to his regular Dr tomorrow. Mind you, many emails & texts with my husband & brother in between. You get the picture?

With all these "excuses" said, I ate 2 (not just one) sugar cookies AND a few chips (which I NEVER eat)!

I was on a roll not eating "junk" food then I hit major stress & BAM.. back to the horrible habits!

Can anyone tell me.....Why, oh why do old habits die hard?

My dear, That's why they're called habits....but hey a few chips is better than a bag.....Use this time as a great learning experience....where could you have intervened? and When? What helps me is always having a protein drink or water with me at all times. Don't be so hard on yourself, stress does a lot of things to us all. I'm so sorry to hear about your father and I just know you have the inner strength to go through the road ahead. You are never alone . We've all in this together. Tomorrow is another day, learn and move on sweetie and God bless you and your family.

Old habits are hard to break but you did not sabotage all your work so just put that day behing you and move forward. I am so sorry for your stress with your father, family being sick can way heavy on our hearts and bring back lots of feelings and ways of coping. Prayers being sent your way for healing and strength, believe in your self, we all know you can do this and this is just a Minor setback.

You are going through a really tough time right now, so don't beat yourself up to much. Honestly, I can't imagine dealing with what you are right now.

Today is a new day and do your utmost to stay strong.

John-Smith, Great point on watching our thought process and keep weeding out the negative words that keep us from our goals. New habits are formed in 21 days. So there's hope that eventually those old canbe replaced with healthy habits. And like you said when we fail, which we will from time to time, cause we're are human, we brush ourselves off and keep on going forward and know we are not alone. Effie

I know this is a difficult time for me, but I shouldn't use it as an excuse to eat poorly. It's truly just not worth it.

I need to keep positive thoughts in my mind, stay focused & turn to my fellow bandsters for support when I feel I need it. I appreciate everyone's comments, regardless what they may be.

Thank you.
