No Restriction After 1St Fill.

I had my first fill a week ago. It is very disappointing. I feel like I can eat just as much as I could before the surgery! I lost weight while I was swollen from the surgery, but have lost none since the swelling went away. So, for over a month, I have not lost a pound. I guess I need to call the Dr. and see about another fill or something. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi,

I had a fill 3 1/2 weeks ago and my weight has stayed the same but I have lost inches. I bought a pair of jeans 3 weeks ago and they fit great and were tight when I bought them.

I would suggest a couple of things. For starters, most people take a few or more fills until they reach the green zone. Until then, you may have little to no restriction. That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't do your part though. It isn't just about getting that restriction and eating smaller portions, you need to be adjusting your eating habits overall. Are you logging what you are eating and getting exercise? The band is only a tool and will not do it all without your help. My doctor and many other people's seem to feel 1000-1200 calories per day is ideal. If you are "eyeballing" it and not actually logging your food, you could be taking in way more calories than you should to lose weight. Also, are you getting in any exercise (walking, etc)? That will make a huge difference.

I have had 2 fills so far and have minimal restriction so I am using my own "want power" (thanks CG) and restricting my caloric intake. I started out sitting around, then walking and got up to 3 miles a few times a week. That too has helped jumpstart the scale moving again. I am averaging about 2 lbs per week, which is on track for the band.

For your own sake, act as if you have full restriction. Restrict your calories and make sure your meal portions do not exceed a cup in volume. I bet you will see some more results that way.

Agree with New Dawn comments. Just because you can eat as before surgery does not mean you should. You are experiencing what a lot of new banded people experience. Expecting the band to tell you not to eat. As stated above there has to be more "want" power than "will" power with banded living. There are many times I could eat more or even "want" more but I have chosen not to eat it because I "wanted" to be thin more than I wanted to stay fat. Throughout my weight loss I consistently stayed around 1000-1200 calories and sometimes I stayed in the 900 calorie zone. I did not start eating more calories until I got closer to goal and my weight would stop coming off. Protein is key to weight loss and so is exercise of any type. The weight loss will be slower for some than others. I had over a 100 lbs to lose so the first 50 was my easiest. The last 70 I worked hard for, always changing up my food choices and exercising my butt off. This journey was not easy, actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. I lost a steady 1-2 lbs a week or sometimes less, I lost inches sometimes and never dropped a pound. My main point is the band can not do this alone, if you are going to wait on restriction to tell you how much to eat you are going to be frustrated and disappointed in your band. Advice, do not go down that path, start working on your head and why you make poor choices, because some days our heads win out over our "want power" so we have to constantly be conscious of our choices. You are really early on. You don't normally get restriction before a few fills. I didn't really start feeling it until this last one, which was number 4! You body went through a lot in a short time, give it time to catch up before you get frustrated- I know that is hard to do.

If you want to make sure you are doing all you can - walk as much as possible, drink your water, get your protein. For my counting calories with myfitnesspal and keeping my calories around 1200 works. If I drop to the 800-900 range I am hungry and don't lose. Each person is diffrent you have to find your calorie sweet spot. You just have to find what works for your body and as you get more fills things will get eaiser!

Hi I just had my first fill on October 5th and only 2cc were put in there my Dr. said he would do a second fill 2wks from that unless I was doing ok but doubt it. Why he is doing it in small dosis I do not know but thnakfully this is man I have complete trust in. Before my first fill I was getting hungry every 2 hrs after the first fill well i'm not hungry all the time but one more than a cup definately fits do I eat more than that? I try really hard not. I don't. and part of it is because I know I'll eat three hours later ( i'm doing a 30 day challenge that requires me to eat evry 3 hrs) eat you cup of food and drink alot of water to make uf for the hunger that will carry you through and eat every 3 hrs like a snack string cheese, or a few almonds or something make it a healthy choice and definatly call your doctor and see about another fill =)
