I NEVER EVER want to experience this again!

My husband had made an absolutely delicious ham bean soup. I scooped out 1/2 a cup, and decided I would just puree it. While it didn't exactly look appealing, it was genuinely delicious. But then, stupid me, thought I would just try 2-3 ham pieces, and without thinking, ate them. I must not have chewed them very well, and BAM, they were stuck! Forgive me french, but holy shi*. I could feel it just stuck in the middle of my breast bone. I walked around, and around the house, tapping my chest. My poor 10 yr old kept asking are you OK. I replied, I will be. But, I wasn't, not right away.

Within minutes, I had tears, and eventually I threw it up. It was that lovely slime everyone has talked about, along with a little of the soup. Sorry for the details guys. I was so scared. This isn't anything I want to visit ANY TIME again. Oh my God! I was so upset with myself, and scared. Mind you, I'm allowed to eat solids as I'm 1+ month post op with 1 fill.

Lessson learned? You bet...... CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW CHEW

Have I made myself clear?

Oh it will happen again, some times you eat one thing just fine- get a fill and wham! Now eggs are my enemy.., I made 15 bean soup tonite, with tiny ham pieces, and I use the H/beach hand blender/ and make a cream soup out of it, that and my crock pot that softens all my meats,, it helps!

I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes we need to learn the hard way and many of us do. It is so hard to undo a lifetime of eating habits immediately.

I had this same experience from meat that was too dry and not only was it scary from the pain, but also feeling like I couldn't breathe since you cannot swallow. We went for a walk and I was walking behind my fiance like a rabid animal foaming at the mouth (aka sliming). It was a painful lesson but kicked my butt in gear! Sorry you had to endure that and I hope you don't have to again.

I agree with Grider above too that sometimes the same food can react differently. I have eaten eggs many times and last weekend had a painful stuck episode where I spent most of my meal in the restaurant bathroom. I didn't even get one egg down. :(

Hang in there... even w/ all the trials and tribulations, I wouldn't trade my banded life! I am down 42 lbs and loving it... still much to go but I will get there.

I guess my problem is that I always "used" to swallow my food. I mean, I hardly chewed it, then swallowed. Now, I have to chew 100 times, then chew it again.

I'm "still" afraid to eat anything solid... My sturnum was a little tender yesterday, and this happened on Sat night. I was actually worried that I hurt myself some how. Well, I guess I did if my stomach tossed it back up at me... ;-0

oh wow!

That sounds freaky! Now i'm so afraid to get my fill!

Up until now (post-op but no fill) I have been able to eat practically everything and sometimes if i eat too fast i'll feel icky but it eventually passes (I get a watery mouth, my eyes water also, and i feel a gross pressure in my chest. but it always goes away in a few minutes) and i'll continue eating much slower

thanks for posting this

Have you got stuck since?

Unfortunately you will get stuck again....because from time to time the foods we are fine with one day, are our enemy the next. It changes with fills, with time of day, tenderness and moisture, texture, amount, etc...but you have the key...chew chew chew!
