3 Years - Issues

DixiesMom

This November will be 3 years since my lap band surgery. I am holding steady at 160 after loosing 100 pounds. It seems unbelievable to me that I had 100 pounds to loose. I have not had a fill in almost one year. The 3 years have gone by quickly with no problems or issues.

Recently I have been having issues with a very tight band in the mornings. Its usually midmorning or noon before I can eat. Lunch is very light. By evening/dinner time I have starving. I experience reflux/heartburn day and night. Zantac has become my friend. I seem to be craving more carbs lately having more fatigue and chronic constipation. Im getting my protein in, not so much fruits and veggies. I look in the mirror and see an over weight person looking back. Just wondering if Im experiencing some sort of a depression, maybe going through a down period since the weight loss has slowed down. Anything similar out there?

Thanks

Actually, it doesn't sound normal that you cannot eat until so late in the day. You may want to call your dr. and get his/her opinion. Perhaps there is an issue with the band - especially since you mentioned having heartburn and reflux. I have read that can be a sign of a slipped band.

Hi there Dixiesmom,

I'm also 3 years post op and I know everybody's situation is not the same, but if I were in your situation I would probably ask to get my band loosened a bit. It doesn't sound normal and you have additional symptoms to go along with the issues you're having with eating. I'm not a doctor but if I were constipated, I would think either I'm not getting enough water or enough fiber, i.e. veges. You may be lacking the nutrients in the fruits and veges which could be leading to the fatigue. Also, if I had acid reflux on a regular basis, I would be concerned it would lead to problems with my esophogus, such as ulcers, so I wouldn't let the situation go on for long. I would definitely consult with my doctor.

I'm still considered overweight and maybe even obese at 194 lbs and 5'6''. But although I feel better about my body, I still struggle with my self image being a smaller person and still not being totally secure with it because of so many years of being overweight and everything didn't snap back into place like I wanted. Anyway good luck and I hope you resolve your problem quickly.

I am only 1 year post op, but, have from the very beginning had the tight band syndrom in the morning. My Dr. said many patients experience this and I just try to get a couple of bites in to get the ol' system started. I have found warm drinks help relieve it slightly, but, I know that any real amount of solid food just is not going to happen until about noon. This actually works pretty well for me as I never was much of a morning eater. I have also always experienced some heartburn since I got my band, doesn't sound like I experiene as much as you may. I have shared that with my Dr, and it is something he monitors, but, is of no great concern at this point. I would recommend that you certainly share with your Dr so he/she can monitor. Good Luck with your future efforts. I am only 18 pounds away from my target of 160. These last 18 are much slower than the first 124 pounds, but, I believe I am just a bit more impatient since the first 124 came off so quickly. I can already see that the maintenance phase will be challenging, but, look forward to that transition.
