So I have been silent on the blog front lately, which isn't normal for me, but I have been back and forth on some issues. As we know from previous blogs I had issues with insurance and was facing the decision to pay out of pocket for lap band, which I don't have, or have gastric bypass. Well I went in to my regular doctor and she threw another curve ball my way. She now doesn't think that I need any surgery at all. She believes that since I have lost over 20lbs in 2 months on my own that I can do this on my own. She sat down with me to throw this info at me. I am on a time crunch with insurance, mine is over in October and my fiance's doesn't cover WLS. So If I switch to another managed care I can get lap band, but I will have to pay for fills/unfills/follow up care out of pocket. If I got gastric bypass, the first year is very critical and I would have to take care of that cost out of pocket also. But since I am doing well on my own, and pretty positive about the loss so far, we can leave it the way it is and revisit some other help later on down the road because my fiance's insurance will pay for a bunch of different weight loss medications.

So now I'm on the what the heck just happened here track? Ok I am doing well and very proud of myself for keeping this momentum going. I have managed to really change my lifestyle, way I look at food, etc. A lot of that is credited to all you lovely people on this blog. Its great advice and motivation even for the unbanded really. To top it off, I have had at least 4 people be relieved that I'm not having surgery of any kind. So now I am faced with what to do. I could go ahead and change managed care plans because I already have the referral and approval at the center that originally evaluated me for lap band. That is if the managed care plans allow me to change, which also means I would have to change all my doctors and my kids doctors too. Blah....I really didn't want to do that. So now I am stuck here in limbo again, trying to make a plan! Lol, if its not one thing its the other!

omgsh, Your poor brain. lol. Husband has asked me about stuff like that.He thinks if I can loose weight before the surgery on my own, than why have surgery. I try to explain to him. I have lost a large amount of weight in the past, with the use of prescription meds. I lost about 60 pounds in a year. Well they only let me have them for a year. It was super stressful trying to fight my hunger and 30 years of bad eating habits without some "help" i.e. pills. I kept it off for 2 years and then it just crept back on. What I am trying to say is, yes you can get it off with pills and stuff, but will it stay off? For me I know it wont.

At least this way I am forced to eat right. No more eating like a pig one day and starving the next, I feel like the lapband is going to force me to make new habits, and from what I have read, if I do try to eat wrong, it will probably be the last time, because of the consequences, and I am not that hard headed, I dont like it when bad things start happening. I know you have probably been racking your brains trying to decide. Just remember once it is off, you want it to stay off. If you can do that on your own, then that is wonderful, I just know I couldn't. Good luck to you and let us know.

I agree with the above poster. I have MULTIPLE times lost weight always to have it come back on. I believe just about anyone CAN lose weight but I think those of us who yo you for years really do need the tool the band can bring. I paid out of pocket for mine because I was so sick of the yo yo (our insurance won't cover it) and I feel so good about taking that control over this issue that's been with me for years. No it wasn't easy to come up with the money but in the end for me personally it was worth it. I send my thoughts and prayers to you as you make your decision. Best of luck to you.

I also agree with the above folks- I have lost weight successfully many times, but I always gain it back because the diet is not sustainable for long term. I am not against losing weight naturally, as some can be successful at it, but I am against doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. You know yourself best- is this something you can continue doing for life to lose/maintain?
