I am a couple of weeks from getting my surgery. One thing I keep hearing about and its making me nervous,is food getting stuck. What happens when it gets stuck, and how do you get it back up?

I was banded in December of 2011. I have lost 38 lbs. One of my biggest fears was throwing up and getting food stuck. I haven't thrown up since my surgery (overshare? LOL) but I have gotten rood stuck. It happens when I don't think about what I'm doing and don't chew my food enough or I eat too quickly. You will feel pressure in your chest and it honestly feels like you have a burp that is stuck. It does hurt. The only thing you can do is just wait a few seconds and it will pass. I have yet to have thrown up because of it. I've read that it happens but it hasn't happened to me...thank goodness. As I've written, it does hurt...there is pressure and pain but just relax and it will pass.

Good luck to you!!

there are different levels of stuck for me. it's usually self inflicted, but right now my band is too tight so almost everything except liquids are getting stuck.

first level. like the above poster stated it's uncomfortable and will just pass in a few minutes.

2nd level. very painful and will pass in a longer amount of time

3rd level. not going anywhere unless i make myself throw up.

not pleasant, but totally avoidable.

Thank you ladies, you helped me a lot. I had it in my mind that when I got stuck I would have to do something drastic like go to the er or something. Jennifer are you going to get yours loosened or are you going to just hang in there?

Hey there...I got food stuck once and it actually caused me to vomit...then I had to go get fluid removed because I couldn't keep anything down from my tummy being swollen...however this was because I'll admit I took way to big a bite of my food. Just make sure you chew your food and you'll be A ok! :)
