Hi everyone,

I'm going to my information session next Wednesday, and hope the consider me. I'm 5'2 and 190..... borderline diabetic, and my back and knees hurt all the time. I've tried every diet program and have read every book out there :(

The more i try the more depress i get when i fail.

Has anyone else gotten approved with a bmi of 35???

My BMI was 35.6 when I had my pre-op visit and 34.8 when I had surgery. I'm 5'8 and started at 243 lbs. I am now around 212, four weeks post-op. I had hypertension and high cholesterol as my co-morbidities, my insurance required two. Insurance actually denied my surgery the day before I was set for surgery, and my surgeon appealed it. He had put "hypertension" as my co-morbidity instead of "uncontroled hypertension" but he cleared it up and I was approved.

The best thing I can suggest is to work closely with your WLS coordinator. They can be your best friend through the process, mine was. They are so good at working with the insurances.

Honestly.... no. most insurance won't cover the LB with that low of a BMI with out a co-morbid. I'm 5'2" and had no co-morbid. When i started the journey i weighted 213.. but i started doing research and found out that i would qualify if i weight 223.... so i gained 10lbs and then i started the "official" process. If you go now 99% sure you will get denied.

Some people think.... i can't believe she did that... gained weight to get LB.... Well i tried everything else... every diet...etc and i know that i could make this work.

So would i do it again....? HELL YES.... gain 10lb to lose 80lb...that's a no brainier.

Now if you are self pay.... yes. You can get it done at your BMI.
