Banded Yesterday & Miserable, 5/21/12

So I was banded yesterday and I'm super sore today.... I was so out of it I'm not even sure where my port was actually put... I've got about 4 incisions and they are all a little swollen so I cant feel anything as of now... I have horrible pain in my shoulders, which I was warned about, but I swear I feel like I'm overdosing on Gas-X and its doing absolutely nothing for me!!! Not to mention I now have liquid pain medicine that I can't take because I'm SUPER sensitive to taste and it makes me gag.... I really hope it gets easier after today, I'm not hungry, but I'm miserable in every other way =(

Hang in there..it will get easier. Walking is the best thing you can do for the gas pains. You're not suffering from intestinal gas you're body is trying to push out the gas they used to expand your stomach so they could work on placing the band.

The gas pain is bad but it goes away hold your nose and take the pain meds. This is no piece of cake and anyone who led you to believe otherwise is wrong.BUT........ everything is worth it and you will see that as clothes fit and meds go away......,

Good Luck to all of you. I was approved for the surgery and had done my 6 month DR. supervised program for cigna and got scared , When I did finally decide to do it My husband was diagnosed with Cancer and I backed out again because I had to be able to do for him, well he is better and I am seriously thinking about calling my surgeon's office and getting it all lined up again and getting the ball rolling. My 6 month program was good for 2 years and that is up in Jan 2013 so I really need to decide. I am so scared but I know it is what I need. I wish all of you the best of luck and sure hope things go well. Peggy

blessed I was banded on Friday 5/18 I really was miserable until today. Day one was a blur, day two I was in pain and started to think what did I do. I got dehydrated and had to go to the er. After some fluid via IV I felt a zillion times better. Day 3 I just hurt and I knew I need to try to get off the lortab (liquid pain meds) as those always mess me up. Last night I was able to remove the bandages and take a shower for the first time in days. I also decided to sleep in my bed instead of the recliner that I had been in since Friday. Today I got up showered and acted as normal as possible when your left side hurts every time you move! Hang in there it gets better... I really did take the first 3 days easy. However every hour I got up and walked about 5 minutes. If you got a speedomoter (breathing thingy) I blowed in that and just tried to get the water down. I am only doing childrens tylenol as needed but its mostly just before bed. Please believe me you are on the right road you will get there just be good to you and think of the health and excitement that lies ahead of you!

I think the gas depends on how much they put in you and how much walking you do... I didn't have much at first now I am blowing a@@ like crazy! LOL but it feels really good!

lol, then I cant wait to blow a@@ too! I have the pain on my left side as well, I'm drinking water/Gatorade every 15 min or so, just a sip or two here and there to keep hydrated, and tried a little of my protein shake just to fill up a little more earlier. I am excited to see how this is all gonna work out, I've actually gone down 6 lbs since Saturday.... so I guess the saying is true, u gotta go through hell to get to heaven! Keep me posted on your results as well! I'd like to have someone who is somewhat going through the same thing at the same time, kind of as support.... Thanks again!!

Ok, so the gas has finally started to "pass" and I'm getting a LOT of relief from it! I woke up feeling so much better. I decided to step on the scale and I'm down 10 lbs just since Sunday!!! I know I was complaining before, but I take it all back, this is more than worth it!!! Thanks for all the support everyone! I've chosen not to let people around me know that I had this procedure done because I really dont wanna hear the criticism, I just wanna feel better.... at least I can talk to others on here who are going through similar situations in dealing with it. I was kind of feeling alone till I hopped on this forum.....

I'm 8 days post-op and I still have some gas pains. The gas was so bad that I couldnt breathe and was admitted in the hospital. That was day 5. I was not able to relieve my gas out of either end and it started to actually cause my lungs to collapse. I caught it in time but those gas pains are nothing to mess with. Make sure you get the gas out, if not it can be very painful! Gas x did nothing for me, but my dr had me take a laxative and that released everything and he also had me start taking pepto bismol.
