One Week On

scarlettbegonia

So it's now exactly on week since having my "band" removed.

I did 24 hours in hospital, I was quite well prepared for the pain as it was very similar to the band going in-the port site was a little bit sorer than the first time but i knew that would be the case given my port was flipped and surrounded by scar tissue so needed to be dug out!

I was told by my original surgeon at my third or forth fill that my band was "slightly tilted but that's ok it won't make any difference at all" which was his reason for doing the fills under xray.

When i started having troubles keeping anything down i sked if it could be because theband was "tilted" he assured me that no that's not it and that he'd meant the port?? He also "assured" me that if i was vomiting it was my own fault i was either eating too fast(no) to much(no) over too long a period(wtf??) or just to eating right...when i pointed out i some times had troubles with liquids in the morning he said it was in my head....Hence why i stopped going!!

fast forward three years(so four years out and moved to a different state ) and Im not keeping very much of anything down ,what i can keep down are generally sliders,I've gained a lot of what i lost and im having trouble swallowing so i finally fessed up to my GP(pcp) that i had a band and what trobles i was having-she sent me for bloods and a barrium...I had/have esopheagal dysmobility which is why i now have trouble swallowing and nearly all bloods were tanked out well below "low" levels.

I found a surgeon who wasn't going to try to push me to be rebanded and set a date-thankfully he slotted me in pretty fast-surgery went well and i spoke to the surgeon a few hours later,He let me know that NONE of this had been my fault The original surgeon had placed the band in the wrong spot-too low and on an angle,it had at some stage sllipped from there, not a big slip, but enough to make more scar tissue, the port was totally flipped and had been for some time it also had A LOT of scar tissue around it.

I regret that i ever got the band,I wish when i had asked the surgeon initially about sleeves and RNY that i had pushed him when he had responded with"your BMI isn't high enough" I found out later he ONLY did the band and my BMI would have been ok for a Sleeve.

I don't wish anyone with a band anything except happiness success and for it to work as it's supposed to but statistically speaking that's not going to be the case for alot of people.

Please don't bother to respond to this if your some 5 month out band cheerleader that thinks you know everything and wants to "bash me" for "bashing the band" that s not what im doing -I'm putting forth an honest situation you may be met with in the future and quite honestly im not intrested in your opinion!!

Good luck guys xxx

I think it is great you share your story. If anyone is considering Lapband they need to hear it all. I was just banded and have not had any issues but I applaude you for standing up and being on to tell it all! I wish you the best of luck and a fast recovery!!

WOW is all I have to say! I'm so glad the nightmare is over for you and you can find something that will suite you better then the band. It sucks that no one is truly guaranteed success with such an awesome tool as some put it! I still love my band 3.5 years later but I've had my issues with it to and I have made drastic adjustments to my life to accommodate this moody band.

Keep us posted on if you do a revision to another WLS.

oh and also wanted to mention that I think it's wonderful you posted people need to see the GOOD and the UGLY about LAPBAND... I personally stopped going to the support group because so many people were trying and having horrible results with it.
