Expectations....

I had surgery on April 16, 2012. My last weigh in before surgery was April 9th one week prior to surgery. I have since lost 28 lbs to date from that last weigh in but have not lost anything in almost two weeks. 28lbs is great in the grand scheme of things but I am having a hard time not getting discouraged that things are not moving along a little faster. I know I didn't get like this over night and I know the band is a tool and not a miracle fix but jeez I am really beginning to wonder if I made the right choice. I am eating far less than I ever used to and I am not always thinking about food like I always used to.

Next Wednesday will be a month since surgery so I guess I should look at it like 28lbs in the first month is damn good even it was due to liquid and puree diet. My first fill is scheduled for May 29. I hope to really step it up and see the effort start to pay off.

So many people know I had the surgery. Not sure how it got away from me like that where everyone knows but they do. I am so worried about being looked at like the fat guy who couldn't lose weight with weight loss surgery....

U know that untill u start getting fills its unlikely that u will start to lose weight quickly and to be honest this is why this period is called bandster hell, i was told a lot of people even can put on a small amount of weight during this time so u are doing great.. initially we heavier ones tend to lose a lot of weight then even tho we are eating much less we sort of stabalise for a while but it will start shifting again once u start getting the fills u need and just keep burning more calories than u are eating ... we are here for support if u need us Jim :)

Thanks I think I needed to hear it from someone whose lived it. My wife kept telling me I am putting to much pressure on myself to soon and that less then a month out I should be happy with what I have done so far.

I think you are doing great!! I was down 27 lbs and in the last week have gained 2, talk about discouraging:( Your attitude about the band is right on!! It is a tool but food is a drug...we just have to fight it! Keep up the good work!

I lost 9lb in the 2 weeks pre op and had lost 9 lb since up to last Sat. For the two weeks up to Sat I was really hungry on an evening and eating the equivient of an extra meal or two. The guilt was there all the time and I gained 3 lbs of the weight back on. I was down to only 1lb gain when i went for my fill.

I had 4mls at time of surgery and that had reduced to 3.5mls when it was measured Sat. I have had 1ml more put in and was ok until Monday and can now eat big portions again. I'm fighting my 'need ' for food every evening but have 31st May in sight which is my next fill.

My dietican had said early on to add potato to soups/pureed food if you are really hungry as the starch will help to fill you up.

Good luck on your journey:)
