hey i got diabetes and have the band, but lil by lil my numbers are getting lower, the more weight you lose the more your numbers will be getting lower, it's not a quick fix like the bypass, the band takes time, work out everyday at least 1/2 an hr and eat right make your body sweat, i took up kickboxing and its doing a miracle on me i will soon post up some b4 pics and afters, good luck!!

Hi! I was an uncontrolled diabetic for 15 plus years. I had a heart attack and had my lapband surgery 2 months later. I weighed 368 pounds. I am very happy to report 3 days post op I was off all heart related medication and 5 days post op I was off all Diabetic medications. I was on a total of 23 different medications for both diabetes and heart. I was told I will always have diabetes, it is just controlled with diet now. The lapband along with the knowledge I have about my tool literally saved my life! I hope this helps you. Good luck on your journey.

yesyesyes!!! this is me! i was on 1000mg of metformin bid and 5mg of glipizide bid prior to surgery. my sugars were in the 70's immediately after surgery and my primary doc told me to stop taking my meds and keep checking my sugars daily. they have ranged from the mid-80's to the highest of 118. i went to see her last week and she discontinued all of my medications and rechecked my A1C. it was 8.8 in january and it is now 6.6!!!

The procedure will help you control your diabetes, but diabetes will not go away. My nurse told me once a diabetic always a diabetic. I no longer take my insulin or Metforfin, but I always have to monitor my sugars. Better food choices and exercise is the key with the Lap Band.
