Yes, I dealt with it and I came out fine. Surgery was March 2,2012 once they gave me the cocktail, I was out when I woke up I was in recovery. I was so scared of all of those things. But what happens if u don't have the surgery? Remain optimistic and pray. It's practically normal to have fear. Praying for a safe surgery for you. Stay focused and know that you are doing the right thing for you. It will all work out. Good luck.

omg! i am 3 days post op and felt the same way before i had surgery! i have had 2 other surgeries but was soo stressed becuase this was elective...i almost backed out the morning of. I cried the night before like crazy! I am a mom of a toddler and was thinking the worst...however...its normal! I am recovering at home, and can say this was much easier than my other surgeries..Lots of Gas, but nothing unbearable. I was too very stressed and uneasy..reach out whenever you have questions~ This site is great for support~

My surgery is March 22 and I have had the same feeling as you are having. I've second guessed myself many times...still do. Like ready4changin2011 said, what happens if you don't have the surgery? You can die from most of those same things you named. I have had surgeries before, but they were c-sections, so I was awake for the whole thing. I don't know which is scarier, knowing you're going to be put out or being away, listening to everything going on. You and I will be fine. This site has been a wonderful fupport for me and I'm sure you as well. We will get thru this. I'll say a little prayer for you if you don't mind.

i felt the same way all the way until they wheeled me back..after giving me "something to help me relax" it was smooth sailing and like readyforchangein2011 i woke up in recovery fine! i think i was also feeling guilty about having elective surgery and i have only ever had surgery once before but realized that that was also elective (tubal ligation)...i have been feeling great since surgery, but i still have creeping thoughts about port revision, band slippage, and erosion:( not to scare anyone...i do feel that i made the right decision and am happy with that choice...

i pray that God's peace would begin to surrond and engulf you as you are on your journey. it's natural to have some fear, for you are human. i had to same fears,and i think mine were magnified since i work in the health care field and see a lot of things. but i want to encourage you to try and let those feelings go, you want to go into surgery with a clear heart and mind because once you are banded you will find out that stress definelty effects your band. my prayers are with you my sista as you start your journey to a new and healthier you.

It's normal, you are excited than scared, you get excited then worried, and you will feel that way after for awhile too. I was the worst baby about it, I would actually tell hubby take it out take it out, I don't care how just take it out, but now I feel so much better look so much better and thats what its all about it the long run.

Use the support that is offered to you, find a buddy that really helps, I found some good friends here that I can talk to and we talk out what we are going through and it does make a difference.

Any type of surgery is an ordeal of sorts; it affects you both physically and psychologically. It is normal to become anxious to some degree prior to having the surgery...for some people the thought of going under anesthesia alonee can bring sheer panic. Consider your past track record...prior surgery had a good outcome, and you survived it. Understand that this is your mind running away with you, and in the same way, you can regain control of your thoughts by reaffirming the positives about the band surgery. You have the power and control, if you take it! Good Luck!!

Thank you all so much for the remarkable comments and encouragement. This is indeed a huge emotional and stressful roller coaster but with God's help and my continued prayers I will make it. I think as this as just a test and in the end I will win. You all truly are greatly appreciated and your words are not void.

It took me until about a week before surgery to relax. Just keep telling yourself it will be fine and you will be healthier.

I just had my surgery last week and I was terrified.................I hate getting IVs and the pain afterwards was worst than I tht it would be...................but today I am doing much better...............make sure you get enough fluids and protein in.............or you will be hurting..................and walk....................dont sleep all day!!!!!
