Three Weeks Post-Op Tomorrow

I am finding that the band works so different for everyone. One of my co-workers was banded in September and she has lost about 40 pounds. She has 7 ccs in a 10 cc band. She said she was hungry by two weeks out and that she was already eating regular food at the point I am at. I was so surprised. And she had 4 ccs in her band at the time she went for her first fill (odd)I really can not understand how she can eat regular portions and food. She vomits every other day, and after her last fill she thinks she is too tight, because she is struggling getting down small portions. But she eats a lot of junk food she told me. I asked her why she decided to go this path if she was not going to be compliant. She does not exercise and eats crap. She said she thought it would help with her overeating and the weight would come off. Sigh.....I could only try to educate her on what I have learned here and from my doc. Hopefully it will help.

I am getting ready for my first fill next week and also I am spending Spring Break out at the rodeo carnival on Wed. with my kids and heading for my first road trip with my band on thursday. We are taking the kids to San Antonio and will visit the Alamo and the Riverwalk. I am looking forward to it.

Question for everyone out there. Did you have any fill placed at the time you had surgery? If so how much was there?

I went for my 4th week f/u and thinking that I was going for my first fill, but the dr. asked me about the red, green and yellow zone so not necessary u will get u fill that day. It depends on the zone u tell them u are and still lose the weight. I also asked how much fluid the band has and she said band is empty. I wont see them again until a month, but if i get hungry and eat between food and not losing any weight then I will call them and they will give me a fill immediately.

I am doing fine without a fill yet.

I was banded on 10/21/11 & have lost about 20lbs. I have 5cc in a 10cc band & that amt was acquired from surgery & 2 fills. Even when they say your band is "empty" at surgery--there is a little bit in there to help hold it in place. As for feeling restriction after surgery-it is my understanding-you will feel some restriction b/c of tissue swelling after band placement. I was restricted for a few days after initial surgery but had a real problem adjusting to being so hungry. So I actually introduced mushy foods a little earlier than suggested. But my doc's office said I handled it fine & did not do anything dangerous. And I am staying w/ 5cc for now (waiting on a 3rd fill) b/c at my last appt I figured out that my eating habits have not changed enough...been having a lot of vomiting & stuck issues. I tend to eat pretty healthy, but I eat fast & I was so used to eating large amts of healthy foods...I'm still adjusting.

I was one of those fortunate bandsters and i have had some type of restriction from immediate postop. You are correct in that we are all different and we should never compare our fills or how much we have in our bands. For a month I have been tight and rarely have been able to eat 3 meals a day but today was good and I enjoyed all three meals. I will say even though I felt some restriction from the beginning I could tell a difference after my first fill.
