No Pouch? My Schizophrenic Band

It's frustrating.

Nearly 2 years have passed and I've lost only 30 pounds. Now I'll admit that I haven't been vigilant about getting fills. I only have about 5 cc's in my 10 cc band. But there's a reason I don't get more. It sucks. I have no idea at any time how my band will react.

One thing is consistent -- it is always the tightest in the morning. I've actually felt a bit uncomfortable when drinking a V8 quickly in the morning. Other times, it seems like it is almost not there.

I don't understand it. My expectation was that I would be able to eat small meals and get the sensation of fullness. That has never happened. I don't know why but I think that it is possible that my doctor put the band too high so that I don't have a pouch to fill. If I eat something that doesn't want to go down it hurts. Sometimes not a little -- a lot. I have to wait. I eat my meals in 2 to 3 times the speed of my family members. If I stop eating early I do not have that sense of fullness and I never have.

I fear that if I have more put into my band that I will simply experience pain on a more frequent basis without the benefit of feeling full or satiated.

There is no way to tell when my band will choose to act up. Sometimes I can eat a teaspoon full of food and it will make me feel like I almost cannot catch my breath. Other times I can eat as much as I want.

I have resorted back to traditional dieting (Atkins, low cal) with about as much success as I had before the band -- that is to say little to no success.

This all leave me wondering if there are other people who have not felt the benefit of fullness that they were anticipating.

I would say go for the fill my band acts like yours and with 2 fills i had to go in and have a unfill so now my doc fills me a tiney bit every 2 weeks this fill i just had is acting like you say yours is but i believe that only the fills will make the band work and its trial and error until you hit that green zone so i m not giving up on fills evan though like youy i feel miserable at times when i eat and other times i dont but i have to eat super slow yesterday yogart got stuck for goodness sakes

I haver a 14 cc band, and now have 9.5 cc's in it. It took 5 months, with feels every 2 weeks for me to get into the green zone.

I have found out that the more dense the food is that I eat, the less I can eat...ie., an apple is dense, so I can only eat about 1/2 and I am full. I also can't eat the peel as it will not go throug the band and I end up vomiting.

Salads go down very good as does chicken and fish a well as steamed veggies. I truly believe you need to find the healthy choice foods that work for you and then stick with that. I eat oatmeal, chicken, fish, salad, bananas, yogurt, steamed veggies, cottage cheese.

good luck.

my band is very fickle too. in the morning i usually cant eat anything solid. lunch is iffy and dinner is too, some days like you i can get the cup of food down, then the very next day the same thing wont even consider going down. some people may think i'm too tight, but i just think my band is fickle. i am learning to deal with it's fickelness. yes it's frustrating, but i've lost 40 pounds in 9 months and from size 18/20 to 12/14. so i have just accepted that this is how my band works.

I am also dealing with the same issue. Sometimes I too feel like my band has a mind of its own. I was banded in 2006 and I have never

felt that full feeling most people speak about. There was a time I thought my band was not applied correctly. Over the years I have learned and still learning how stress and expercises can tighted the band. Of course I don't know why but that is when I have noticed tightness. Even when I worry some about getting my son to a game on time after work due to traffic, etc.... I still am try working on my stress levels and not worry day after day if I will be able to eat at my next meal. Today with God's help and I now have more good days than bad days. Don't ever give up! I know the one time after starting over and over and over, I will succeed!! : )

It's the nature of our tissues to be different day to day and am to pm. Even stress can effect it. I'd love to see the amounts of your fills. Some have a big difference with as little as .1cc, especially when you get near the half full point/5cc (over that I noticed a huge difference and was overfilled, unfilled and then in between, now perfect). Your Doc should be doing tiny tweaks at this point. My hunger is gone, over 100+ lost, middle of a Normal BMI.

Best Wishes!
