Discouraged About What They Want Me To Eat!

shadowstacey

The group that put my band in provide a dietician with the package. And they refuse to put in

a fill if the dietician doesnt sign off on what im eating. But the thing is they only want me to eat

all crunchy food... ALLL DAY LONG!!! like shreddies, rivita crackers and barely cooked veg.

They are all fine but it doesnt exactly give me room to love normally.

If i knew that this was a condition of the band and that it would not give me restriction with

normal food before I got the surgery I would not of went ahead with it. I find myself lying to the

dietician just so they allow me to get my next fill.

So discouraged and regreeting the money spent on the band at this point.

Shadow Stacy, along with the list of foods does this include your protein. Lean meats and fish? The protein is what will help keep you satisfied the longest between meals, it takes longer for protein to break downand digest. A lot of people are misinformed about how the band works. It does not prevent you from eating anything and it can not stop you from overeating. If the band is properly adjusted you should be satisfied with 3 meals a day and rarely eat between meals. If you drink while you eat it will wash the fluid straight through the band and also if you eat more than 3 meals a day and snack inbetween it also is harder to lose weight. I guess fortunately or unfortunately there are a lot of rules to follow and it does take discipline and life style changes. Sorry you are frustrated and I hope things get better for you.

At my center, they said, to eat crunchy things but also you just have to see what you can tolerate. If I had to eat crunchy veggies all the time I would die, I eat a lot of soft foods, and have no problems with hunger etc. They never made me list off what I ate to a dietician, it was based on how full I felt etc. when getting a fill. Hahaha, if I had that, I would have lied to the dietician too!!

I said the same thing if I had really known about all the restrictions I wouldnt have gone through with lapband, but we need to give this a chance now that we did do it. Im only 3 weeks out, and have so much support than I suspected, People want us to succeed so we should too. my dr said for now 4-6 small meals with snacks inbetween if I get hungry. and lots and lots of liquids. until I get a fill and start getting restrictions. (And I would have lied to the dietician too!)

Thanks its early days yet i suppose but its frustrating when people are asking you to stick to all this food thats healthy for ya and theres no restriction in the band yet to help a little..... My will power is swaying immensly and all i can think of when they say just eat this is that if it was that easy to do I would not have had to pay thousands for the help of a lapband...Im getting another fill next week hopefulli that will help.... tanks for the advice and the support!

I eat high proteins and low carbs. veggies are important carbs, and the only things i don't eat are Rice, Peanuts (other kinds of nuts are fine), Corn, Bread unless its toasted (and not all the time), and nothing with carbonation as carbonation stretches the stomach (this is what my dietitian told me not to ever eat again, as they could clog over the small opening of the stomach). Other then that i eat small portions,. I also watch my sodium as it makes me swell up. I was never told to only eat crunchy foods, I started with soft foods in the beginning, and slowly added other things. I stay away from chips and candy of course but do eat fiber bars to cure my chocolate craving, It's all in how things are prepared and the portions, and exercise of course. You need small amounts of healthy fat such as Avocado's (sparingly) as you need some fat to lose fat. Don't give up, you will be glad you stuck it out. Remember small portions, chew it well and enjoy it. don't eat to fast, and drink plenty of water between meals not while your eating though as you want the food to fill you so your not hungry and snacking in between meals, the water/fluid will keep you satisfied between meals. If my dietitian told me that i would of lied to, to get my band fill lol. Good Luck!
