Will I ever be able to enjoy food again? will I ever be able to take even one bite of cake? can I, if I measure it ever be able to have potatoes. I realize that food is what got me in this problem but I'm so scard I will never be able to enjoy good food again! I look at my plate and I can have broth, Not filling soup no strained chicken noodle soup! protien drinks (can only handle just so much milk) water! 3 weeks of this I can't wait for soft...smooth...FOOD! I look at everyone around me and all I see is food, potatoes, corn, rice, green beans, so much food I just want to ask myself what was I thinking getting this means NO MORE FOOD!!!nonod.gif

Honestly, I think I enjoy my food more now than I did before the band. Now, I have to take my time in between bites and not just wolf it down in 5 minutes! My brother had the surgery more than a year before me and my sister in law and I would talk about how we loved food too much to limit ourselves to such small portions. But after all is said and done I couldn't be happier. I thought I was going to miss bread so much, and honestly I don't. And I actually don't have a problem eating bread at all. Just that now I choose not to eat it, or atleast not very often!

I still eat potatos, I measure 1/4 cup and I'm good. I still eat baked potatoes, just now the size of a golf ball. I still eat what I make for my family for dinner so my meals haven't changed that much from before. Presurgery my meal was 75% carbs, and now my dinner is 25% carbs and minimal for lunch and rarely at breakfast. I am truely amazed that I love feeling better about myself now than my love of food before.

Ditto Holly! I still eat everything...in small amounts, and love food even more...I love savoring it now, not just stuffing it in. Hang in there, it gets better! -BG

Lovelee, there is life in bandster land. When your band is new it does seem like you will never be able to enjoy food again. I remember those days all too well. During the first weeks after being banded I remember thinking the very same things that you are, will I ever be able to eat and enjoy food again. The answer to that question is yes, I have been banded since Oct 2010 and have learned again to enjoy food but in small portions. I do occassionally treat myself to dessert or a small portion of bread or pizza. I have learned through trial and error what foods go down and what foods don't. The main thing I have learned is to slow down and enjoy my food. So as both bloggers above said, give it time, you will get over this initial phase and start to enjoy food again. But the best part of this is while your enjoying food you will begin to lose weight and see the true realization of your band. Remember no one said this was going to be easy, we all knew going into this we had tried everything else and we had failed. hang in there it will get better.
