Frustrated With Slow Weight Loss

DeeDee1975

My weight is coming off pretty slow in comparison to most people who have had lap band surgery. I was banded three months ago. Exercise six days a week on the elliptical for about forty minutes and only eat about 1100 calories daily at most. I have only lost about 17 pounds. Anyone else out there having this same problem? I hope I’m not alone. I’m getting very discouraged.

Hi DeeDee I to am frustrated with my weight loss. I have had only one fill since surgery in October. I had my first fill on the 6th of December. I told the doctor I had gotten my appetite back I can eat well over a cup of food at a time. Since that visit I have felt no difference in my appetite. I lost 20lbs before surgery and have lost maybe 5lbs since then. I must say i am only exercising 3 days a week for about 45 minutes. I do plan to increase that. Should i and have others lost weight faster than this?

If you're still hungry, there are 2 reasons:

1) You need a fill

2) Band was not inserted properly. Have it checked with a fluoroscope.

The process of getting your band where you need it to be is a slow process, I have lost 24 pounds since October. But I need another fill and I know that when I get to the "green" spot, the weight will come off faster. Relax and let the process happen, you will get there! Good luck!!

the first three months after my surgery, I only lost 26 pounds. I had my surgery in April of 2011. As of my last appointment in November, I was down 82.

It starts out pretty slow, but you will get there.

Thank you for the responses. You guys gave me some much needed encouragement. My band is pretty tight. I've had 2 fills already so right now I don't need another. I'm just a slow loser. I started out weighing 237 and now I’m s\done to 220.

Wow! I had my lap band done in May of 2010 and I have only had 2 fills. Now I know why I am gaining my weight back! Every time I make an appointment my Dr cancels and I have to reschedule over and over so then I got frustrated and gave up! I was suppose to go in on December 28th and wouldn't you know... 2 hrs before my appointment he called and cancelled again! I now know that I need fills more often. i was down to 176 and am now up to 195. I WILL NOT hit that 200lb mark!

I'm almost at my 2 year anniversary (Jan 13) and have not lost much weight in the last year. I no longer have insurance to be able to see my surgeon, so I can't get fills. I'm frustrated with the lack of weight loss myself, but I can only do so much...so as of today, I'm back on the liquid diet for the next week or 2. I'm hoping that jumpstarts my weight loss again.

I was banded in October 2011 and have been worried about this as well. However, I'm going in for my third fill this week and can't wait to see how it turns out. Throughout the whole process I have continuously heard that the weight loss can be slow and we have to be PATIENT. It helps to hear it again.

I thought I was the only one feeling like that. I initially wanted to lose the weight slowly, but not this slow in fear of having to deal with the excess skin. I lost more weight before the lapband than after. I lost 17 before and 1 lb after 3 weeks. I was devastated. I got my first fill and lost 5 lbs in 3 wks. I read other entries and got more frustrated when they lose 15-20 lbs in a month. I almost feel like I am depriving myself of the foods I like only to be disappointed by the small amount of weight I lose. I am not giving up just a little impatient. When I said slow I meant lose at least 8-10 a month not 1 and 5 lbs a month. I had my second fill and I really don't have any restrictions. I can eat the same amount of food with no problem. I have to stop eating myself because my body isn't telling me otherwise. Oh yeah to add insult to injury I was exercising too, go figure.

Sometimes you have to change what you eat. Your body get's use to the same things and it becomes complasive (not sure if I spelled it right) in other words your body becomes stagnated. You have to change your eating habits but stay on your same calorie intake. Trust and beleive if your eating your proteins accordingly. You should be moving a bowel movement everyday and sometimes twice a day. Food for thought" I have the Abs Diet for Women book". Very good book. Designed for Women.

For us lap-band people. It definately works because we can't eat like we use to anyway. Even if you can eat a little more. The Abs Diet for Women book has a lot of good healthy nutritienal foods to eat. The book is Fat and Orange. That's if you decide to get it.

Good Luck!.

P.S. I go through my struggles just like everyone else but I have (2) sizes to go and I'm going to accomplish it.
