Starting This Journey!

I have chosen to have the lap and surgery after 2 years of contemplating it. I don't know if I was scared or just not ready to change myself. At the highest weight I've ever been, 315lbs., type 2 diabetes since 2007, high blood pressure since 2008, and PCOS since 2007, I HAVE to make a change. I'm only 24 years old and I have my whole life ahead of me, I don't want to lose my life because I didn't get myself healthy.

My fiance is unsure of the way my surgery will affect our relationship, and I have pushed our wedding back another year so I can lose as much weight as I can before the wedding.

I am worried about my willpower in the long run of this decision. I just hope I can keep myself strong and stick to the right way to eat.

I took two years to make my decision to make a change as well. You are going about it the same way. Be patient as The Lap Band process can also be time consuming. I have been banded now for 2 and a half years. I have no idea where the time has gone. I have lost over one hundred pounds, kept it off and had a nip and tuck this past summer. I am a new person. I am called skinny and I look normal. I wear a normal size and can now shop in any store and find clothes to fit. I am proud of myself. You will be strong if you want to change bad enough. Do it for yourself and no one else. Eating the correct way just seems to happen after the band. I made better food choices and eat way less than I would before being banded. I must say I do miss a good chow down I cannot eat a lot of food any more.

I will admit to you I still have disordered eating. I am and probably will always be a food addict. The Band has been able to help me control this issue. It is a wonderful tool and if you follow the rules can make you happy and healthy in no time. This is NOT a diet it has become a way of life. I do not take blood pressure meds or pain meds, no more sleep apnea, joint pain, headaches, knee shots, No more worrying about diabetes or not having anything to wear. This is a journey and make the most of it.

Set a physical goal and then reach for the stars. I am skiing again never thought that would happen. Best wishes imaluckydog

Congrats on your decision to make this journey. I am with you, I just made my decision a couple of months ago. I am due for surgery in a couple of weeks. My wife was hesitant for me as well but she is on board now. Do this for you and your health. Include your fiancee in your journey.

You don't need willpower, you need discipline. If we had willpower we wouldn't have been fat! However, you must have the discipline to follow the program. I strongly encourage you to review my blog entries from day 1 so you can "share" my experience and see that you are not alone. I lost 100 pounds to my goal in 6 months and I can help you do the same.
