Newly Banded with some questions??

So I was just banded on October 28th, 2011 and I can't help but feel I'm hungry all the time. I did so well I went home the same day and can honestly say I've had no issues. I still dont think I know what the full feeling is, just keeping my sized to 4oz. I feel like I can go on to mushy foods, but is it too soon?? All I have been drinking is water, broth(wish is disgusting) protein shakes, jello, and popsicles. Now mind you I did this before surgery too so its been like 3 weeks of liquid! I'm dying here! I started drinking Gatorate today to help get some nutrients I may be lacking!

When did you guys start yogurt, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, eggs?

Also, Is it me or does the port seem like its "in the way?" Its hard for me to sit for a long time because I feel like its poking me. Does this go away?

Overall I am doing well just that I'm hungry.

Any help or words would help?

Thanks!

I was banded 10/7 and I am eating soft foods I did pretty well too kind of sounds like you. Yep I too have that strange port feeling sometimes even still have it, they say they stretch your muscel to attach the port so thats what the discomfort is, its much better then what it was I understand completely. The hunger feeling yep I am the same way too no full feeling at all I am getting filled on 11/10 and sure hope it gets better but they say it ussally takes 4 times to get to that full spot. Good Luck and keep in touch we are all in this together.

You are basically on a very restrictive diet and your band is no help at all...of course you are starving and want to advance your diet! I think you can do so in moderation and I think most of us, if honest, would say we did the same and have done the same type of 'cheating' all along! This first approximately 6 months is the absolute worst as you are getting no help from your band until you get it at least half filled! (Bandster Hell)

That port feeling will go away as it heals and it wont hurt but you will notice it once in a while. Now that I am at normal BMI mine sticks out like a golf ball but doesnt bother me even on my belly on a surfboard...its just weird!

Thanks for the advice! I actually ate some Greek Yogurt today and it worked so well, not to mention the taste was GREAT! I will continue to add more foods here and there, but I am concerned about the protein intake.

I haven't had my band yet (got my first denial letter today), but I have been doing some research. Profect protein drinks contain 25 to 50 grams of protein n 3oz vials and come in several flavors. i bought the variety pack of the 25gm drinks. According to the dietician, i need 99 gms of protein a day. These drinks are great. Check out www.protica.com. i keep reading and hearing about getting in lots of protein to help curb hunger and avoid starvation and deficiencies with the lap band and other bariatric surgeries. maybe this would be helpful.
