Judgmental People and other annoying stuff

4 months, 75 down, 26 to go for my initial objective.

Over Labor Day weekend, I went to a BBQ where I saw many people who hadn't seen me in the last four months. Boy, were they ever surprised at how I look. Many of them offered me congratulations on how well I was doing. It still feels good to hear. However, I was surprised by a few who remain convinced that if I had just a little willpower and stick-to-it-ness, exercised more, I wouldn't have needed the LapBand. I guess that many people feel that way but (mercifully) don't share those thoughts. Imagine telling a lung cancer patient during their chemo they should have used more willpower and not smoked. Not to mention that numerous studies show that fat people "see" food differently than normal-weight ones......(To read the rest, visit my external blog at michaelwasfat.blogspot.

Kind of the whole reason I didn't tell anyone I was banded!! Didn't need any of that bs! These people drive me nuts! The first person I thought I could tell started the conversation out with...I am so happy you didn't do what those wacked out crazy axx people do that get cut up do! So from then on I was convinced that just my husband and my parents (besides my doctors) needed to know!!!

yeah i still have a few friends who dont agree with me getting the band, but i have not had any complications other than self induced(not chewing well/eating too fast...leading to sliming and vomiting.) But going from a size 20 to a 16 in 3 months i'm totally happy. i feel like some people who know i'm banded totally watch me when i'm eating . I still havent told a lot of people and some are wondering what i'm doing and i tell them portion control and i work out 2-3 days alone and 2 days with a trainer. so it's not easy, but i'm doing it. congrats on your loss so far! keep up the good work

I've been pretty open about the whole thing - particularly now that people are starting to "notice" the weight loss (sad that it took 40+ pounds for anyone to notice anything but hey - it is what it is). Not one person has expressed anything but encouragement. What goes on behind my back may be a different story but to my face it's been nothing but positive. Two of my husbands best friends who I am also very close with both made comments to my husband that he better prepare himself for what is coming (me getting thinner - getting more male attention etc.) and both made comments to him about watching out as I may have "loose skin" as a result of the weightloss. Needless to say I promptly reamed them both out. Frankly, I was always a very confident person even at my heaviest - with each pound lost my confidence grows even more. At this point, if anyone made negative comments to me or told me I should have just had more will power etc. I'd just stare at them and say "yes, and?" LOL. Congrats on your success and keep up the GREAT work!:P
