OK, I am confused. I understand the process of being banded (surgery) but what I am confused about is the recovery period. I know I am supposed to be eating healthy, which I am desperately trying to do, but here is the confusion part..why am I told to eat things like yogurt, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, puddings, applesauce??? all these things are packed with either sugar or carbohydrates. Is this just a recovery phase while healing and waiting for the fills to start? And after having watched the DVD which was provided to me yesterday, which outlines the 8 rules...am I supposed to do this from the very beginning or after I start fills? What do you do? I truly want this to work and I know the band is just a tool, but I need to know how to make it work to my benefit. Any suggestions?

Oh, and to top it off, they could not take my staples out...they are not sure if I am having a reaction to them, but I have to take a weeks worth of antibiotic and they will take them out next week. go figure.

I think the focus in the beginig is to have you eating things that are easy to get down. Once you are able to eat solid foods you will be able to eat things much more healthy. Good Luck!

No need to be confused. After your surgery they tell you to go on a liquid diet. I did that for 3 days and then went on to mushies. If, at any time, you get sick, go back to liquids. If you feel fine, its ok to advance your diet. This is what 6 bariatric surgeons told me in a conference. You should stay on each diet for at least 3 days. You dont have to eat all the sugary stuff on the liquid phase or mushie phase. I always opted for protein shakes, eggs, cottage cheese, refried beans, split pea soup. All of these things are good for you. Always eat a high protein food with a complex carb and a little fat. I recommend taking 1 tbsp of flax seed oil. If you do your research on that you will see why. Its hard to get down but I usually "chase" it with cold green tea and its not so bad. Best to you!
