This is my first entry. I was banded on August 10, 2011.

Prior to surgery I weighted 250 pounds.

Day of surgery I weighted 245.

I weighted myself today and I am 235.

Right now, my goal is just to get to the weight I was before I gained it all which is 200 pounds.

Luckily, I am one of those people who are blessed with those body where when they are 200 pounds they look like they are 180. Once I get to 200- just to see IF I can even get there,my next goal will be 180 pounds.

I had my first break down today. I get stressed VERY EASILY. My dad yelled at me, called me stupid and old habits die hard. So, I stress ate.... well, as much as the lap-band would let me. I had 3 spoonfuls of broth, some pudding, and.... something I shouldn't have had; half a wonton. I chewed it up until it was liquified, but I still feel bad about it. I could have screwed up my stitches. I shouldn't let my dad get to me.

Until next week,

Sandra

Unfortunately, the band doesn't make the triggers of emotional eating go away. That has to come as a result of changing your mindset - and only you can do that. I was banded Dec 28, 2010 and believe me, my mind has been reset in so many ways, it makes my head spin!

The band is a tool that you use to lose the weight - you choose how to utilize the tool. You control what goes in your mouth. There has been a couple (thankfully only a couple) times where I have reverted back to the old habits of eating when I am upset - as much as the band allows. I might be only able to eat 1/2 cup - but I can eat one 1/2 cup portion after another of whatever junk I choose to shove in my face all day long - and that is not good!

So, work on those triggers. If it's Dad yelling at you, then tune him out. Tell him you're not going to listen to him when he's like that and walk away - whatever it takes. The question I ask myself when I feel like doing something I shouldn't is this: "Is all the time, effort, MONEY, and success to this point worth throwing away because of how I'm feeling right this moment?" The answer is always NO! Step back, look at how far you've come, pat yourself on the back, and say this too shall pass, and move on to something else. Stress is temporary.....

I ditto mom24teens advice especially right now...you really need to let your band/belly heal. During the next 4-6 weeks the worse thing you can do is not follow your dr's "rules" to a "t". Whatever he or she says you can eat and when you can eat it is when you should eat it...regardless of what is going on..mentally. I know this hard..been there done it. How you pave your road to success right now is how easy or hard you make it. If you are committed to making your goals and using your band to get there then you need to allow your band to heal and settle into place right now. I think it is very sad that a dad (or any person but especially a parent) will call another person stupid..when someone calls another person names they are weak and possibly jealous. What you need to do is turn this negativity into a positive. If you allow him to not let you succeed then he has "won". When he yells or calls you names (I assume you live with him)..then go for a walk..walking is good for you. It allowed me to lose 130 lbs in 10 months..that and a positive attitude! I think it is great that amount you have lost so far and I wish you the very best on you journey!
