I've never been much of a beer drinker. I'm actually slightly allergic to hops, so I couldn't drink much anyhow. Losing beer wasn't a big deal. But, my staple was bourbon and coke. Now, no more coke. So, guess I'll be sipping bourbon slowly, maybe with water. I think vodka and cranberry is possible, though I'm afraid that might be a little girly. Bloody mary's also are on option, low calorie, never really drank those much, guess I will try once I get okay after surgery. I also like gin and tonics, that may be an option. But I will definitely miss my margaritas, hurricanes, daquiris, etc. But, no pain no gain, right?

I WILL miss beer! I am a micro brew fan, with all the rich and different flavors. But I'm with you on alternative beverages. I think a Bloody Mary with worstshire (sp?), and lots of spices would be a rich flavorful alternative to my Bkack Butte Porter. Ohhhh the sacrifices we must make ;-)

I also like gin & tonic, but tonic is carbonated so that may not be a good option. I suppose wine is another low cal option, but really....yuck-sour grapes! Ha ha

Not sure about the wine, that may be an option, have to research that. Thanks for the info on tonic being carbonated, looks like those will be no good also. God, it sounds awful, but I'm wondering, if I left say Coke Zero opened in the frig, so it would lose its carbonation, then mixed it with bourbon, wonder what it would taste like? Not saying I would necessarily do this, just curious.

I have read other diet pop banders do that very thing so they can continue to drink pop. And honestly I've thought that I might try it for my black butte porter, although I don't usually drink at home. I don't drink much or often, but after a 2 week pre op diet of fat free milk only plus knowing I need to wait till 6weeks post op before I am released for the occasional grown up beverage, it is driving me crazy, I am really looking forward to that bloody mary!

clear liquor (i.e., absolute vodka) plus water and crystal light/equivalent is the least harmful - least caloric alcoholic drink you can do since diet pop is out and the other mixers (i.e, fruit/vegetable juice) are high in calories. I will DEARLY MISS my light beers - used to have about 7 or 8 every weekend - of course, that's probably why i got so fat LOL. No beer, i have to think, has contributed to my 25+ pound weight loss since the end of june. You couldn't pay me to drink flat beer. Has to be fresh and cold. Oh well -worth the sacrifice to be thin. Best of luck to you! B)

I still have an occasional beer from time to time. I am not one that has problems with carbonation. But, I wasn't a big pop drinker before so it hasn't been an issue giving it up with the band. Some people have a horrible time with carbonation. I used to drink a lot of beer when out with people. The difference is now, I don't have it very often and usually 1-2 gets me buzzed. It takes a LOT less alcohol with the band to get me tipsy. The vodka and Crystal Light mixtures are awesome, if you want to drink.
