4th day post op

Daniella

This is my 4th day post-op. I have more questions today than I've had all four other days. I'm having these horrible uncomfortable feelings. I get this pressure in my breastbone. My husband says it is the gas. I can't burp or pass it. It is taking so long to get rid of it.

I want to make sure that I am eating right. I have yet to drink the 64 ounces of liquids. I barely have an appetite. I found a smoothie that is really good. My doctor put it on my list of acceptable protein shakes. I've been eating it with a spoon for the last couple of days.

Today I did a little shopping. I didn't drive, but it was good to get out of the house and do something relaxing. I cleaned my kitchen including sweeping and loading the dishwasher. I just feel like I am not doing enough. Am I wrong to feel this way? I hope someone can give me some help.

i am 5 days out - it's the gas - it is HORRIBLE. I've read of some bandsters having difficulty with it but NEVER DID I IMAGINE this level of excrutiating pain. If it weren't for the CO2 trapped in my torso and stabbing me every few minutes like a hundred knives I would have quickly recovered from the easiest surgery on the planet. Yet, here I am in SO MUCH PAIN. It's horrible it really is and from my understanding no pain meds, gas x or anything like that will help it. Just movement. But even movement is not making it stop quick enough. Other than that I'm down nearly 20 pounds from 14 day pre-op and surgery. No pain no loss I guess.

what you're feeling is normal. i am 2 months out. the feeling you're having is most likely gas. they say walking helps, and i did to a certain extent. i was plagued with the dreaded left shoulder pain, which i still get some times. i think you're doing fine. did your doc give you a lifting restriction. mine was 10 pounds for 4 weeks( and i'm a therapist..ugh), but i made it through. i didnt have an appetite for almost 3 weeks but trust me it will come back, enjoy it while you can! LOL! feel free to add me and PM with any other questions. always happy to help a fellow bandster!:D

One exercise I read about on another site to get rid of the CO2 gas pains is to lay on the floor on your back. Take one knee and bring it to your chest. Count to 5 or 10 (whatever you can tolerate). Do the same with the second knee. Roll from side to side a few times. This seems to prompt some small "gas passes" - and of course the goal is to get as much out as possible as soon as possible. I am never usually negative on these boards but I was just cranky this morning because I am just so irritated by the gas. Again, if it weren't for the gas - this surgery would have been a BREEZE. Best of luck to you!!!:P

I am 5 days post op, I only had gas pain for 3 days. I think I am fortunate with this. However it was bad while I had it. One of my concerns is the water, I am also having a difficult time getting it in. I lost 19 lbs in the 10 day pre op liquid diet. I lost 1 more lb by the 4th day post op, but this morning that 1 lb is back. I have read so many people having big weight loss the first few days after surgery, but not me. I have been following my liquid diet the way I am supposed to, but I have no idea why the weight loss has stopped. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks. rolleyes.gif

Thank you guys for all of your help. I'm sorry I haven't been around. Between school and going back to work, I'm going nuts. I'm going to try all of the suggestions. I haven't loss much weight either. I figured in time. I loss more weight during the pre-op diet as well. I did lose inches though. I can tell in some of my clothes. I heard the inches are better since it means you are losing more fat and not muscle.
