Young and banded

After over 3 months of being banded today i had my first stuck moment, and OH MY GOD i never want to feel that in my life again. That was beyond painful. I didnt panic because i know what it is and knew i was going to have it one day. It doesnt block my breathing which is a plus. But i didnt know what to do. I know youre suppose to take papaya enzyme pills or drink hot water. But i dont have the pills and the water wasnt working. I was being tortured for over 30 minutes. That was very sharp pain it felt like something was going to rip out of me. My mouth started, not foaming but it was very interesting liquids coming out, and i couldnt throw up the food it was so jammed. I couldnt even talk. Its literally stuck, i never knew the feeling until now. It just refused to go up or down. I drank some hot water but that automatically made me feel worse and it didnt go down past my throat and i had to force myself to throw up the water.

Any home remedies i can do other than these? or tips that help you guys? This was too painful. i need to start being careful.

Get some pinneapple juice and sip on that and oh, I know the pain you were in. What was it that got stuck? Ritz Crackers is bad for me so I don't even look at them anymore. You described it just like it feels and it goes away as fast as it comes. I carry a cup around with me when I get that stuck feeling and can't swallow my own spit which is gross but it is better than standing over the sink. You have to try and relax because that will just make it tighter I have found out. Thanks for sharing because I know someone else goes thru what I go thru but have only been thru it about 4 times in 6 months and down 60 lbs.

I know the feeling! I went on a business trip this past week and what I ate for breakfast got stuck at the hotel. So for 4 hours in this business meeting I had this obstruction and had to go back and forth to the bathroom to spit because I could not swallow my own spit. It was horrible!! But the last time I was in the bathroom I started taking extremely long deep breaths to try and not start crying and wouldn't you know it...THE PAIN WENT AWAY!! I know it may sound weird but I was at the point where I was about to catch a ride to the nearest emergency room!

But taking long deep deeeeep breaths worked for me. So after I started to feel the pain go away I started sipping water and by our dinner meeting I was eating fish and mashed potatoes for dinner.

I've only had 2 obstructions in my 1 1/2 of my band but now I know that taking deep breaths WORKS.

Sorry for the long post. I was just waiting to share this with someone :-)

Been there. What happened with me is my throat was constricted so bad it spasmed so I couldn't throw it up. I finally did throw it up and I kept going and going until nothing was left. After that even water got stuck. It took the next day before the swelling went down.

You did everything right. Relaxing is key although feeling panic is more true. The panic feeling I think causes it to tighten more. Hot liquids helps but like you I had a time that it didn't. Gravity helps too. Getting up and walking around and taking deep breaths to relax.

Its called sliming when you have that thick mucousy stuff. That is your body's natural mechanism kicking in to slime it up to help what is lodged to go down or up depending on the case.

Here's the bad news...I was banded 14 months ago and still have that problem. Lately most days stuck and throwing up. I went months without an real problems then bam! Back again.

I am so very sorry to hear that you are experiencing this awful stuck feeling. Unfortuately, I am experencing the stuck feeling more often than I would care to talk about. I eat slowly and chew my food until there is nothing left to chew on. I take very small bites of food at any given time.

I feel like my band has a mind of it's own, because every day is never the same and thank God for that. I really don't know who encouraged you to drink on top of something being stuck, but that was never a good option for me because thing only got worse when I did! Remaining calm and taking deep breaths really help things to pass a lot quicker. I am normally able to bring up whatever may be stuck at the time, but it's still a very painful and a uncomfortable feeling at the same time. I hope things gets a lot better for you.

I am with Judy on this..I carry a small can of Pineapple Juice and keep a 6 pack on hand at home at all times. It is kind of like carrying an umbrella..if you have it you will not need it but the first time you forget it..bam! Anglov did a good job explaining..try to relax it does help!! Take care!
