i look back on alot of other blogs and posts, and i see many people with ALOT of weight loss...i am not one of them...i was banded 1/10 and i have lost a ttl of 50lbs..although i am happy with loosing anything, i wish it had worked better for me...

i did not have a good expierience with my surgeons follow up care...they were very reluctant to give fills...when i got to a 5cc fill, they would only give me a 1/4cc a month after... long story short...i did switch doctors, and i now feel like i have a good amount of restriction..7cc in a 12cc band. i think i want more though...not sure. i can eat more than i would like to, and there are days that i am SO hungry..other that i'm not.

everyday after i wake up, i need to take whatever i'm eating or drinking extremely slow....the first tiny sip of water in the morning, and i get that "stuck" feeling...i continue to take more tiny sips until eventually it feels like ive "primed" the system, and then i can take normal sips, and eat a 1/2 hr later....anyone else having this problem?

i see what some others eat/drink..and even with 7cc's i feel like i eat a regular sized meal...i stop because i know i should....not so much because i feel full...??? hmm

I was banded in Nov of 08 and have only lost a total of 60 pounds HOWEVER having said that, I don't consider it a failure because I have kept the weight off and am still losing weight SLOWLY. Everyone is different so don't be down on yourself. The lapband is only a tool. For me, it's a tool to keep the weight that I have lost OFF forever. If I want to lose more weight I'm going to have to change my eating habits and exercise. I hate to exercise otherwise I would probably be down more pounds. You've lost 50 pounds....... that's great!! You won't ever have to be 50 pounds heavier again!! That's something to celebrate!! Hang in there!

I am 5.7 cc and yes I am very tight in the morning. I have meds I have to take with yogurt. I crush my meds and it takes me forever to eat that yogurt. Sometimes I eat it too fast and have to get up and walk but it goes thru. At night, I take almost the same meds and I don't have to crush them and I still take them with Yogurt. 50 lbs that is great and fast. I had the band done on Dec 31st and have lost 59 lbs so you are doing VERY good according to me. And yes, at night I can eat more but I am like you and learning to stop and thinking I ate enough so to stop eating. I have caught myself doing the mindless eating and then I get in trouble even though it has been almost 6 months for me. I guess the fat girl will always be in me. Have a good day and think positive, your doing great. Remember we did not have the bypass where the weight comes off faster, we had the band which I feel was the correct choice.

Fifty pounds since January sounds really good to me. Since you are having problems with food in the morning, I think you don't need a fill. I did read someplace that one mistake banders make is to wait for the "full" feeling to stop eating. They said to stop when you know you have had the right amount. If it wasn't enough you willl get truly hungry in a couple of hours. That is what I am doing now. I know that's what I did and now I've had to put myself back on mushies.

The biggest thing that I had to learn was the difference of being full and being satisfied. I also get the hiccups when I am "done eating". As soon as I hiccup that is my sign of being full. Also, we need to learn to eat 1 cup or so at each setting or meal (I eat 5 times a day). Each meal needs to keep you full or satisfied for 4 hours at least along with your fluids. If you are starving within 4 hours then you would consider a fill..however if you are too tight in the mornings I would not consider it. Also, I have heard that a lot of people try a warm drink in the morning will help them be able to get thru breakfast! I am not a breakfast "eater" I still absolutely love the shakes so I have a shake in the morning first thing and then a few hours later I have my 2nd meal but as I mentioned I eat 5 times a day. I have a 10 cc band and never had more than 5 ccs in it in order to lose 130 lbs. in 10 months BUT each person is different. I think losing 50 lbs in 6 months is fabulous! A lot of people would trade with you in a heart beat!!! You do not want to overfill nor do you want to convince your band that it is not satisfied..it is our heads/minds that is trying to convince us that we want more when we really do not need more. I know for a fact I eat less than my 4 yr old does and I am very healthy. If I was still carrying the additional 130 lbs..I wouldn't even have a chance to keep up with my son...now everyday I know I not only kept up with him I wasn't even winded!
Take care of yourself and stay positive! A positive attitude is key to your success!!
I think finallyincontrol gave you some great advice. We are all different, and learning to listen to your band and figuring out the difference between full and satisfied is one of the hardest things we have to learn. I mind has always controlled our stomachs and we now need to listen to our bodies so we no when to stop eating. A lot of people hiccup, (I have several friends who do this) I burp, and it is not very lady like. Opps! I eat 3 times a day with one snack in the evenings. My snack is usually fiber, milk or protein and always around 100cal. I happen to be one of those people who also still likes the shakes and that is usually my breakfast because during the week I do not do well with early morning meals, on the weekend I do fine. I think it is a time factor, week mornings are rushed and not enough time to sit down and eat, easier to drink. But I take 35 gms of protein in a shake or my coffee and it keeps me satisfied until lunch. I have friends who have so much in their bands they can not even lay down to eat, they want to lose weight so much they are willing to compromise their bands and their health. Nothing is worth that to me! I hated food getting stuck, I hated being slimmed and I enjoy being able to eat my meals with my family. Our heads do play a key role in our weight loss and we need to learn to not listen to the little voice inside of us that says, "Just one bite won't make a difference". Keep postive thoughts and you will be successful. Your weight loss to date is great, think of it as 50lbs gone forever. I was banded last week of October 2010 and have lost 68 lbs. I needed to lose 108 lbs total, my doctor says that for a band patient that is great and I need not to be discouraged over the next few months because the loss will be slower. I have 40 lbs left to lose. Keep your self focused, listen to your body and develop healthy habits and routines. This truly is a life style change but you can do this and you will look absolutley fabulious. B) Good Luck!

50 lbs is fantastic! Lap band is not quick weightloss for most people. It is usually a slow weightloss over 3 years. My question to you is what do you consider a normal size meal? My surgeon has said that a salad plate size meal should be the normal for lap band. That is per lap band standards now. They have even come out with a lap band plate that shows the portions you should have on your plate. My weightloss was slow at first then it picked up now it is slow again. I am down 115 lbs in 13 months. I was banded May 12 2010 but having said that, my weightloss is not the norm. It has also slowed down a lot lately. I have only lost 2.5 lbs in the last month. Any loss is a win win in my book. Don't be so quick to over fill yourself. Major restriction will not mean more weight loss it can actually cause the opposite. Your body still needs a certain amount of calories and nutrients to function normally. If your restiction causes too much of a reduction in calories, fat and nutrients your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto everything you eat.

I hate exercise and to this day don't do much of it. Well lately none at all. Life gets in the way, too much going on at work, etc. Always an excuse. Getting the amount of protein in is key and what has kept me losing. But not exercising has caused me to have lots of hanging loose skin. I am paying for not exercising. Good Luck!!
