This is my first blog entry and it's been a little over four months since surgery. (12/9/10) A little about myself....I'm 38 years with two children. I have a very supportive boyfriend that I have been with for about 3 years now. I have been overweight all my life except for the times I dieted and lost some. Of course those pounds always came back with more. I made the decision to do lapband when the doctor threatened to put me on cholesterol meds in addition to the BP meds I was taking. I felt i was too young to be on daily meds for the rest of my life. To date I have lost exactly 40lbs. I wished it was more. The surgeon didnt put any fluid in at the time of surgery. My first visit in January, I got a 1.5cc fill (10cc band) in February I got a .75 fill. Last month in March, since I had gained 7lbs since february, she gave me at 2.25cc fill, which now brings me to 4.5cc. I still have no restriction. I go back next week and hopefully I will get a fill and get some restriction. Up until now, my weight loss as been from regular ole diet and exercising. I work out four times a week an hour each time. I could have done this without the band right? In my mind I'm thinking that when I do FINALLY get some restriction I will continue to lose weight hopefully at a faster rate. We will see I guess. But on a happier note, I feel much better, look better and feel alot better about myself. I started in a size 22w, now I can get in regular 18's (no W) and they could be tighter. I'm thinking I probably between a 16 and 18. Progess? Yes. Slower than I thought? Yes. Happy? Definitely!! Thanks for reading! Be back soon with updates!

Hi DeeDee, I so get your "I coudl do this without the band" thought! I am 12 weeks post op and only had my first fill of 2ccs at the end of March. I am scheduled for my second fill on May 2nd. I have not had any restriction at all. It acts more like a shock collar really. I know that I went through all of this with a goal in mind so I still try to control portions as if I was sitting at my sweet spot. This helps but yes, without the band working the restriction, it can be really tough! Hang in there. Keep doing what you are doing!!! I never set a weight goal at all and have to be satisfied with losing, slowly but surely losing these lbs for good!

40 lbs is awesome. Ive been banded 7 months and not even at 30 lbs yet. I started to feel restriction at 4.5 cc's. Now I throw up a lot and other days I eat whatever I want. Somedays its hard to get cals and protein in. I work out very hard and still the weight loss has stagnated. I just dont get it. Im a 12 now and weigh 200. Id like to get to a 6 at 160 lbs. At this rate....I dont see that happening. Maybe you need one more fill. I warn you...Its not fun having restriction, not when you BP.

I have to agree 40 lbs is great. I was banded 1/11/11 and I'm down 29 lbs yea... You dont want to get were you are restricted and have to barf when things get hung. I have been there several times and it is not fun. I'm at 4 cc and I can really feel the restrictions. I have to think about everything I put in my mounth. I take a bite a wait for several minutes and then try another bite. This is definetly a journey and a whole new way of eating. I'm glad for the weight loss but when you get stuck and are in a restraunt with a wait line in the ladies room and have to barf in the sink it's not a pleasant experience. Good luck to everyone....

I had my 4th fill today for a total of 6.5cc's. At 6cc's I still had very little restriction. My doctor told me today (because I was whining saying "when it this thing gonna work"), that the "lap band" (not sure which one you have?) usually hit's the sweet spot between 6-7cc's. I'm on liquids today, so I'll know in a few days if it's working. I was told that I will only be able to eat about 3/4 cup of food in one sitting and I will have to sip water because it will be hard to take multiple gulps. As of yesterday, I was still able to gulp and eat more than 3/4' cup. I just choose to eat the healthy stuff so I’m still losing either way.

I DO throw up when I've tested out pasta, breads, and shrimp (or just ate too fast). So it's definitely working when trying to eat the bad stuff!

I feel your frustration though. The good thing is....yes, we are still losing weight! ;)

Hang in there.....40LBS is Great!
