Hi there. Just from my experience, I too felt like I just couldnt get enough of anything in to myself the first week. Drink slow! Take small sips. If the pain is unbearable, it isnt normal. My port site is still a little tender and I am 12 weeks out. They sew it right in to your muscles and the healing will take a long time. I'm 3 months out and my port site is still sore it has gotten better. I got pain with a sip of water and loss 11 lbs in 4 days by the 5 I was starving and couldn't take the pain so I called the doctor. He met me on a Saturday and checked my band. Come to find out I have 4 cc of fluid and the swelling combined was causing my problems. He removed all the fluid, bands come with some fluid according to the doctor and mine had a little much. I would get it checked so you can eat and drink something without pain and have a successfull beginning... Good luck to you..

Unlike shifflet, I had no fluid in my Realize band when I had the surgery. I did however, have a hard time due to the swelling. Surgery is allot of trauma. I would clarify with your Dr as to the specifics of your band. When in doubt, check it out! That's what my surgeon told me! GOOD LUCK!
