Where is the sweet spot?

Its been 6 months for me and I have only lost 20 some pounds. Im close to being in onederland. When I got my 3rd fill I felt good restriction. I was only able to eat a little at a time and I was losing about 2-3 lbs a week. I had something get stuck 2 weeks ago, I threw up my own saliva for 3 days and went in for an "unfill". He took out all the fluid allowing the stuck thing to pass and I felt better instantly. He put most of the fluid back in he said. Now, I am HUNGRY and eating all the time! Im even eating breads which never would have happened before. I have not gotten on the scale because I know I have gainded weight back. What should I do? My next appointment is at the end of April. I know he will do a fill then but should I see if I can have him do a little fill before then. I DO NOT want to feel like last time and throw up almost every day. There is a "sweet spot", right? Is there actually a place where I feel restriction but do not need to worry about throwing up? Please refrain from telling me how to chew food , the pace and what not to eat. I have been doing this a while and I already know and do that stuff. I dont mean to sound arrogant I just read a lot of these blogs that keep re-stating the obvious to those of us who have been banded for a little bit.

Thanks so much everyone!

It seems the sweet spot is hard to find. I have had 2 fills and yet I still feel like I can eat more than what I am supposed to eat and more often. It takes constant control on my part to not do so. Yet other banders say they have found that sweet spot and have good restriction. So I guess it all has to do with your own individual body. Some are luckier than others I guess. But I would say maybe go in for just a little fill like 1/4 or 1/2 cc fill and see if it changes anything for you. Nothing worse than waiting - when you want results now, huh? I think we have all been there. Good luck to you and keep us posted. :)

I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for you. I was only recently banded less thn a week agao and am shocked on the amount of restriction I already have. I can on imagine the amount of restruction I will have after my first fill. Check fighting the good fight and let me know if you just need someone to listen.

I think that sometimes after a fill we are too quick to unfill if we have an experience with throwing up or whatever. I think my best course of action after a fill was to go back to smoothies for a few days and then gradually try small bites and really eat slowly, and wait between bites to make sure everything goes down -- I avoid bread and bread products at all cost and stick with tuna and chicken salads, some soups, very tender chicken and some veges and fruit. It is definitely true that everyone is different - and you need to get to know your body and be careful and deliberate in your choices. I snack on the protein bars between if I feel a little hungry and it really helps. It is definitely a challenge at times to find the right combination. Hang in there!smile.gif

I had no choice to get an unfill. I was throwing up every 20 min ( my saliva). I had no food or fluid for 3 days and I was so lightheaded that I could barely drive. I stuck it out as long as I could. I havent eaten bread or any of the "sticky" foods since my 2nd fill but now Im eating everything. Im so hungry... literally my stomach growls. Im having such a hard time. I guess I will need another fill and do my best to not allow anything to get stuck.

I could not tell when I reached my sweet spot. I had to be told that I was there. There were days when I could eat a tiny bit and feel satisfied for 4 hours and other days when I felt like AND could eat all day. I felt like I needed a tiny fill (like .2cc's or something) and went in for one. Because my doctor's office uses fluroscopy, they refused to fill me. The NP said I had good restriction and sent me home. She has the band herself, and knew what to look for in the xray.It took me another month re-evaluating my diet and excercise program...and most importantly, learning about satiety and how to recognize it. Maybe you need a slight fill...like half of what was just removed. Does your doctor's office use fluroscopy? If not it might be worthwhile finding an office that does use it at least for one visit.
