I had my surgury November 18,2010. I lost 10 lbs when I went to first follow up, since then I have slowly gained weight. I have not felt any restriction since my band. I am feeling really fustrated and depressed. I go back on the 24th of February for my 3rd fill. I went to my regular doctor today and seen that I that I gained another 3 lbs back. I started at 259 and went down to 249 and as of today back to 251. Has any one else gained weight with surgery? I feel like I wasted my money. I am tired of people asking how much weight have you lost? This is a worse feeling than growing up and people telling you need to lose weight for your own good. I feel trapped in this fat body and I want out. :(

I think you really have to stick to the 3/4 cup per meal. And that's it. It is really hard to do. At least for me. But if you want the wt. to come off you have to. Also drink lots of water and exercise. These are the 3 key factors. Good luck. I have not been losing quite fast enough as I would like either but I am determined to do better. Keep us posted on your progress. Keep your chin up and take care! :)

It is difficult to stick to 3/4 cup per meal unless you have restriction. I do stick to that and I am not losing any weight. I am not gaining, but I am not losing either. I have only had 3 fills totalling 3.5 which is not much. I really can't wait until I don't feel like I have to keep eating. I want to be comfortably restricted. We all have to have some control over what we eat. I am learning to eat protein first and if I have room a little of everything else, which isn't much. I don't always like eating protein first, but I do get full and then I don't have room to eat other bad stuff. I have read so many people and so many, many different stories, good and bad. I truly believe that everyone is different and they have to find the right way to use this "tool" "lapband" to their liking. It isn't easy. I get very depressed quick and want to give up. BUT, I don't. I even cry myself to sleep sometimes because this is going so slow. I just feel that I went through the pain of having the surgery that I need to keep going. My husband and I just ordered a treadmill and I can't wait to use it. I do exercise on my WII right now. I do WII Fit and WII Dance 2. That breaks up the bordom some. I must admit I have to push myself to do the exercise, but every time I do, I feel great and have energy. The days I slump around I feel terrible. I wish you the best of luck and know that others are struggling too. I am struggling. I was banded Nov. 4th of 2010 and have only lost 20 lb.s and 15 of that was BEFORE surgery on the liquid diet. So, I have been so upset and depressed that I am not losing more quicker, considering that many have lost a lot of weight in less time than I did. However, I keep reminding myself that everyone is different, I have thyroid problems that make my journey much more difficult and I just have to keep trying. Good Luck!

Know how you feel. Banded on the 31st of December and only lost 16 lbs and was 17 lbs. Today is weigh day and gained that pound. 33 lbs since I started this journey and I always start gaining once I hit 30 lbs on all the diets I have done thru out my life. And I always gain more than 30 lbs. So, lets get working on this bad situation and listen to all of our new banded friends and lose some of the FAT. Good Luck to you, I am there with ya.

I felt frustrated at first. I am now about 7 months out and down 60 pounds. I know that you know all of the...eat protein, exercise, portion control...etc. I would request the doctor to be a little aggressive with this fill. I did not get the right amount until my 3rd fill. Let me tell you...big difference. I could eat bread before...not now. I could eat larger bites...not now. I had to truly learn to eat like I had my lapband after that 3rd fill. You have just not reach the point where your band is tight enough. Trust me when I say you will know. At first I thought mine was too tight. However, when I really assessed what I was doing and changed a few habits (smaller bites, eating slower, and smaller amounts), it worked. Just remember that this is a process to get you to the right point. I had to work really hard before I found the "sweet spot" to lose weight because I would truly be hungry. I do think it is normal for some to gain weight until they get to the right restriction. I also suggest keeping a journal. It will really keep you honest with yourself. I am amazed at some of the days in my journal. It helps me to see where I may still need more work (like more exercise). Also, I have days where the scale will go up a pound or 2 only be down 3 in another couple of days. It is usually my lovely hormones at work. Just take it in stride and keep moving ahead. You can do it ! :)

I was banded only one month before you. I just had my 3rd fill 3 weeks ago and finally feel some restriction. I was in the exact same boat as you and was terribly disappointed. I lost 11 lbs then gained 2. Now Im steadily losing about 1 lb a week. I still think thats very slow but I know Im going in the right direction. Trust me... this is a very slow process for many of us and remember... it takes 3-4 fills to start feeling restriction. You will know it when you are unable to eat what you want and the weight will come off. My doc said to expect a year or more to drop 50 lbs. I work out very hard but still let myself have any food I want ( just small portions and no bread since that gets stuck). You will get there. It just takes a lot longer than I had anticipated.

Wow. I am so glad I found your blog! On Monday I will be 4 weeks post op but I am feeling the same way as you have described in your post. I haven't gained any weight back (17 pound loss) but the majority of that was before surgery (on the liquid diet)! I have become obsessed with the scale and frustrated that the number I see isn't falling. I am really struggling with the diet and drinking enough fluids. It seems as though only those that are really successful with band and weight loss post. I am so thankful for you post. I am already praying for you and will continue to keep you in my prayers. We can do this and we will be successful. Good Luck and thanks for sharing your "true" feelings :)

Thanks everyone for the response. I was feeling a little alone and wondering if I was doing something wrong. I go Thursday for my 3rd fill and will keep you posted. Hopefully I will feel restricted this time and finally lose a few pounds. The worst feeling is when family ask you how much weight you lost, I thinks it's worst then the old speech "you need to lose weight , I only telling you for your own good." I don't want to be this size. I have doing jazzercise for 5 years, gyms, and dieting since I was 9 .
