Obsessed, Consumed?

My date is quickly approaching and instead of being excited I am scared sh*tless! And what does analytical, detailed oriented person like me do when they are scared? Well, I consume more and more information on the topic. I am obsessed. It does not matter that I have read all literature and research about the procedure, risks, options, you name it. I have to understand what 'real' people who had made this choice are going through, feeling thinking. Stalking forums and discussion boards looking for more and more data..I'm consumed. I know everything about this procedure and the product. You see, I work in the biological/medical devices field for years. I have colleagues that are employed at Allergan, the company that manufactures, the Lap Band. So after being on the other side of the bench for years, I will be a patient this time. It is a totally different feeling

I thought just like the rest of the folks here, I might find some comfort-kinship, by chronicling what I am feeling. My surgery is 02/22/11 and I have completed my first week of the pre-opt diet. I am following the diet prescribed the best dietitian ever. Today I have blood work done and am scheduled to have cardiac and pulmonary clearance next week. I did not have a difficult approval process, nor did I have some of the other issues I have read about on the forum. It has been straightforward but quite a bit to excuse my pun-digest! lol

Geesh! It's alot to do. Not only am I obessed and consumed, I am OVERWHELMED! Thoughts???? Words of comfort? Wisdom?

There is nothing to worry about. I did not need to be on the pre-op diet. Actually I was on a cruize up until the day before surgery. The surgery was smooth. I woke up with minimal pain. It was not enough to take pain meds. Just sore in the belly and a little bit of gas pains. You will notice them usually in your shoulder. I stayed in the hospital that night and was terribly irritated that they kept pumping me full of fluids so I had to keep getting up to pee every 30 min. It was hard to do when your belly is sore. I still never took pain meds. It really wasnt that bad at all! It was a quick recovery. Felt sore for about 5 days but still not a big deal at all. I did liquids for a few days then right on to mushies. Doc said that was ok. As long as things are going down smoothly he said you really only need to be on liquids for a few days. Until my first fill 6 weeks later I lost NO weight!!!!! Between the first and second I lost 2 lbs. Between the second and third I lost 11 lbs. For me, its a VERY slow proceess but Ill get there. Dont be nervous or over anxious about dropping weight quickly. Now, after 3 fills...I finally feel some restriction. Its been 4 months. Again... very slow process. I paid for this myself and I am very pleased with my decision. I didnt say that for the first 3 months as I couldnt understand why I wasnt losing weight. I work out hard and I was only eating a third of what I use to... still the weight loss was painfully slow. Now, Its all I can do to get enough calories in to lose weight. You will do just fine. Simple proceedure. Keep us posted.

fillesudiste: For everyone the process is different but with the openess of most people on the site, your questions will be fielded. Dont obsess! It's a little bit harder when you go in and think you are prepared for every detail and aren't. Take it from me! :)

Good luck, RELAX, be at peace.... What's meant to be will be!

Always here if you need anything. Good Luck!

Thanks for the cOmforting words! It's now 3 says to the procedure and I'm starting to feel better. Had a few pre-op tests to complete this week, so a little hectic. I decided to take off 7 days to recuperate. I don't know how I'll feel, so I did not want to plan on going to work any earlier. This sounds like the average amount of time people are out of work. Just taking one day at a time now.
