So I am starting my 2 week pre Op diet here goes nothing. Hope it works. Starting with a shake this am and I think I am on my way. I will be excersising in the evenings after dinner and hope that helps me loose some weight. Any advice as to lose lots of weight in the pre op stage?

No secrets to losing weight. Just stick to the liquid diet and you will shed some pounds. Everyone is different and some lose mega pounds and some don't. Keep busy and congratulations on your lifelong journey. I was banded Nov. 5th and haven't lost much weight. Most of my weight I lost before surgery on the liquid diet. I've had 2 fills with a total of 2.5 cc's, but I have been told that for some, that is nothing and for me, it will take a few more fills before I feel a difference. I am hungry more than what I should be, but I eat healthy foods and try and stay away from the junk. I am going to beat this by staying on it. I suffer with chronic back pain, thyroid problems, spinal stenosis, and restless leg syndrome. So, I have a lot to conquer as well as the weight loss. As far as the exercise, I can only do it when my back pain isn't severe, which I do force myself a little anyway. I have to be careful not to hurt my back more. Although I do not have to lose a lot of weight, I do have to lose at least 80 more pounds. The main reason for this surgery is to lose weight so I can get off my blood pressure meds, so my back pain subsides and so I feel better all around. I know for myself, I have a big fight on my hands, but I am not giving up. I have to do this. I have grandchildren that I need to play with, to go places with, to just have a lot of fun with and I just can't fail. Best wishes to you my dear! All bandsters are in it for life!

The preop diet just plain sucks! I have failed dieting obviously or why would I need a band...AND I am hoping to retrain myself out of the stupidity of diets but this is what the doc wants...it was no fun and I was headachey and starving but after that , never again. Hang in there and suffer it. I am so glad I have my band it is nice and snug and I simply cant eat like I used to and still often would like to! Since I got my band I never dieted and I never really exercised but the band kept me eating tiny meals...the weight comes off without all the crazy stuff we do before the band! PS use this site to get lotsof support!! I always advise newbies to read band_groupie's blog The Sweet Spot from the beginning...it will make you laugh and cry and KNOW you are not alone!! Good luck..

Stick to your pre-op plan...mine was 3 shakes a day and nothing else!! So keep yourself busy doing anything and everything you can possibly think of that will take your mind off of food...clean out a closet, clean out your pantry...keeping only the good stuff, go grocery shopping for post op foods, stay online, WALK...walking is an excellent way to lose weight..walk the mall or your neighborhood (depending on where you live..you might be snowed in at the moment), stay focused on the big picture and remember that the more you shrink your liver the easier the surgery will be on the surgeon so the equates an easier recovery for you!!!
