So, it's 7:26 p.m. and today has been a great day as far as food goes, but HORRIBLE as far as my life! I have sciatic pain that would kill a horse and I am so afraid that I will have to delay my surgery if this pain doesn't calm down! I REFUSE to allow that to happen though. My doctor said the first 3-4 days of my liquid diet would be the worst, so I'm not going backwards! I have made it successfully to day 5!!!

I have had a protein shake (28 g), chicken and stars soup (3 g), 1/2 of a protein bar (12 g), lite yogurt (8 g) and will have another protein shake before bed (28 g). Total protein for today 79 grams! :)

I am NOT hungry, and feel VERY confident in my ability to do this once I am banded because let's face it, my stomach is still HUGE right now and I'm not even starving!

I worked out for 20 minutes on my elliptical and did 30 minutes of stretching to help ease my sciatic nerve pain...it worked some! :)

My boyfriend is in the hospital right now struggling to keep any food down and has pneumonia...so today has NOT been a good emotional day, but I didn't feed my feelings and can just admit that I'm SAD....not hungry about it! :(

As Alikitty said..you r a strong woman..you have a lot going on right now! I wouldn't have thought working out would have helped the sciatic nerve..you know best..I have back issues..thank god not the sciatic. I know you don't want to post pone this but the worse thing to do is go into this unhealthy. Do what u think is best!! Great job on the protein count and how you are feeling!!

Well you probably know all of this but you got me curious and this is what I just read on the internet..maybe it is all old news if not I hope it helps even a tiny bit!!

So what can we do about getting rid of sciatica pain? There are three processes that you can to do help give you some wonderful relief from this awful condition.

First – there are five nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve and they exit the lower back region. When the lower back muscles or the joints are irritated, you may have a sciatic attack. So the key here is to balancing lower back. This can be done by performing some simple stretches and joint techniques for that particular area.

Second - Your pelvis needs to be level. If your pelvis is not level then sciatica can reoccur. The best way to check for this is to lay on your back. Place each hand under your back on each side. Put your hands about belt height. If there is more pressure on one side than the other, your pelvis is not level. This is also referred to as pelvic distortion. No matter what it is called, it can cause you a lot of pain.

So, the second step is to correct your pelvic alignment and release that pressure it is placing on your sciatic nerve.

Third – this is the easiest of the three, but probably the biggest irritant to your sciatic nerve. If you can take care of this, then you may very well be on your way to getting rid of sciatica pain forever!

This is regarding the main muscle that surrounds the sciatica nerve. This is the Piriformis muscle. When this muscle tightens, it will immediately irritate the sciatic nerve.

This is doing with some simple stretching exercises and they need to be done at least 3 times a day. One session just before you go to bed. If you stretch a muscle, then use it, it really kind of defeats the purpose of stretching it. You want to stretch it when you are done using it. At bedtime, you are giving your back a nice rest with a nice stretched and relax muscle.
