On day 3 of protein pre-op diet. I am seeing Dr. Deitrick in Tampa. Anyone with suggestions against starving? I'm drinking till I float. Having my 2 protein shakes a day with my meal at lunch and I'm still starving. Shakes don't fill me up at all. I'm esp. starving in the morning and can't wait for lunch. Love to hear from someone. I'm so excited about the surgery, but having a hard time with this.

First of all congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I too was on a 2 week pre op liquid onyl diet. I am a patient of Dr rehnke in St Pete. His diet was Optifast (protein) shakes 3-5 per day plus ANYTHING liquid/sugarfree/diet. Keep in mind the bigger picture. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress

I too was on a ten day liquid diet. I saw Dr. Jones at the Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park Minnesota. I drank my protein shakes and had lots of water and sugar free drinks. I had my surgery on the 14th of Dec and I have lost 27 pounds so far. I feel great. Good luck on your surgery and it will work. Just hang in there. It is great after it happens

I am on day 5 (starting tomorrow) of my pre op diet and if you read my blog you will see what I have been doing. I think adding a banana (or half at least) to your protein shake helps. I use EAS protein powder, skim milk, and a banana with 5 ice cubes to make mine. It is really thick, so it helps me stay full for about 4-5 hours. That gets me to lunch time easily. I also got some myoplex lite protein shakes, but they are like chocolate milk, instead of a shake and I don't stay full on those for long. I am also allowed to have lite yogurt (under 100 calories per container) and that helps me. I am making sure I get in the 60-80 g of protein each day and 64 oz of water or I think I would be WAY hungrier.

My doctor said the first 3-4 days are the hardest, so I'm feeling great about this and you should too! I have lost 6 lbs!

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Keep your eye on the prize and DON"T YOU DARE give up on yourself!!!

Hi Shelly65. I am on Day 3 of my liquid pre-op diet too. I liked what ThinSIstaSoon said, because the fruit causes the shake to be creamier. I use frozen unsweetened fruit in my shakes so that I don't need to add more than two ice cubes while blending. Also, the fullness lasts about 4-5 hours. Oh, I like to use a straw to sip my shake. I wish you the best. Remember, there are others here to share with!
