The difference between having good restriction and your band being too tight!

Well it appears that me and my band have under gone several changes since it's been put in. I made a last minute appointment this past Tuesday to get another fill or adjustment. When I started explaining to the PA about some of the things I was experiencing, he determined that my band was a little too tight. You can only imagine that was not what I wanted to hear. I really had not lost any weight since my last adjustment and I was having a very difficult time eating meats. We all know that our protein is one of the most important things we need to eat on a daily basis. However, I had started to make poor food choices to compensate for not being able to eat meat. I was eating more carbs which I really did not need to be doing. They were things that did not provide me with the appropriate nutritional value I needed daily. My meal time was becoming a time that I really hated due to the pain and discomfort I experienced. There are still some foods I continue to stay clear of but thank God meat isn't one of them. Within hours I could really see a difference when I ate meat. I am still learning to listen to my band. I would hear others make that statement so many times before, but slowly a lot of things make more sense to me. When something doesn't feel right it's always a very good idea to discuss those things with your doctor. This band is a tool and we have to make sure our tool is working properly in order to get the maximum return with our weight lost. I go back on the 28th of December and maybe my system have re-adjusted and I can have a little more added in my band!

 

It's crazy for me to say this, but weekly even though the scales are not moving I continue to see changes in my clothes. I am still very happy that I have my band, because it has really made a positive change in my life. I have learned that having the band isn't a quick fix, but a slow and continuous process to work the band toward my weight lost goal! I still have pretty good restriction, but a little more will be even better.

I wasnt sure what you were trying to say...did you have fluid taken out of the band? Im able to eat mostly anything and I have had 2 fills. Im still waiting to feel good restriction. I HAVE had times when I felt discomfort and I wait 20 minutes for it to pass.... then Im able to eat a whole plate of food. How many fills have you had? What did the doc say?

When I read your blog. Im trying not to get discouraged with this fill thing. i just had my first fill and I was extremely tight. As you stated it will come and go at times. Im ready for just the right fit (havent gotten there yet). Ive only been banded a little over a month. Any advise you can give me would be greatly appreciated. How much is in your band now?

You are doing all the right things and others can learn from you. You really do have to listen and feel what the band is telling you. I also have a hard time eating meat. But I look at that as a good thing, because it takes a long time and that is also a good thing. Small bites are essential and chewing and chewing and chewing. lol I find Meat ,(mostly turkey and chicken) really stick to my ribs. And therefore I am not prone to getting hungry as quickly. Also I have found eating sliced , turkey or chicken that you buy in the packaged lunch meat section is easier to digest than cooking up a chicken. I think it is because it is moister. Just make sure it is no fat. Mine is 10 calories a slice. Wrap a slice or two around a sliver of pickle and sliver of cheese and you have a great low calorie, long lasting snack. Blessings

I am sorry that my blog was somewhat confusing to you. There were some details that I did not include to make my situation very clear. I hope this will clear things up. I went to my appointment to get a fill however; the PA thought my band was too tight so he took .25cc out of my band. Therefore, I was a little disappointed because I was expecting to have more added and not taken out of my band. However, the PA was correct about my band being too tight. By that afternoon, I was able to eat any kind of meat. Before, I had the .25cc taken out I was very restricted on the things I could eat which was mainly proteins (meats). My situation was a lot more than just discomfort there were times I had to throw up to get some relief from the pain. That's not a good situation because I could have caused damage to my band. So far I've had 4 fills, one unfill, and one minor adjust for being too tight. Kelly just food for thought- just because you can eat a whole plate of food should you really want to do that. Once you learn to get your portions under control- restriction happens a whole lot faster. Our stomach is a muscle that will shrink over time that's why the band is considered to be a tool to help manage in reaching our goal. If you continue to think you need a large amount of food to be satisfied that' what your body will respond to. Good luck on this journey.
