Pre Op diet and Nerves

I'm scheduled to have my lap band surgery on the 20th. I started my pre op diet yesterday and am struggling... I stay with a head ache, I'm always hungry and have no energy to do anything. Any suggestions on how to get through the next 2 weeks would be greatly appreciated.

I've been a bundle of nerves lately.. I'm really excited to start my next step into the my weight loss journey, but at the same time I'm scared of the things that could go wrong.. having thoughts wondering if I'm making the right choice... Was wondering how everyone else dealt with the roller coaster of emotions leading up to the surgery..

as far as the preop diet..it was hard..i can't lie but it's so worth it. i was able to eat salads and jello...so for that i was grateful!

That pre diet was a real challange for me. I found that the protein drinks they recomended boosted my energy level a lot. Look to the future prospects for enthusiasim and resolve... You go girl !

Hi,

I was banded on Nov 19th and went through all of the above. Pre op for the first 3 days was the worst...Headache, hungry, all the cravings...It does get easier - Really. Just do your best, I had 4 optifast shakes a day and ONLY sugar free clear fluids - Hardest 14 days...For the most part the surgery went smooth - I had 2 c-sections for my kids so I knew what to expect pain wise but the gas was tough for about 1 week post op...Very uncomfterble. All in all nothing to worry about. This was my first time being put under for an operation so I was pretty nervous about that but you'll be fine. Just go one day at a time...Just focus on the next 14 days and try to be excited.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!! I know I will be able to get through this.. just need to stay positive!!

Hopee- I can really relate to you.. I also had 2 sections and this will also be my first time being put under... it gives me comfort knowing someone else was in the exact position I'm in and came out fine.

I will be banded on December 17. I started my liquid diet last Friday. It has been a hard adjustment going to all liquids, but I find if I add a TBS of peanut butter to my protein shakes it helps keep me fuller longer. I have also had 2 c-sections, but have also been put under for a previous surgery and know I will be fine. I'm excited! I know I've made the right decision and am ready to get the show on the road! LOL! I'm not a patient person so the waiting is the hardest part for me. I wish you the best of luck!

I am 8 days on liquid diet and I have lost 11 pounds that's what keeps me going. Yes I will agree it will get easier at first I cried because I couldn't believe I got to this point where I had to do this but I got over it and am focused! I put my shake in a 2 liter bottle and mix it with a pack of crystle light that taste ok with a dash of lemon juice. I am on full liquids and I take like brocclli chedder soup and water it down and blend it then strain it add some season all no suger and some garlic powder and pepper just a little and it makes the world of difference. You have to think of it like its the soup from the olive garden or something. I do that with all my soups and broths. hope that helps.

You can do it , just keep thinking how much this is going to benefit you and just think if you eat things you shouldn't containing fat it could affect your op, as if we dont follow the diet strictly here 2 shrink the liver they start surgery see the liver is enlarged and abandon surgery thats what keeps me going :o) . Im on my 5th and final week of my pre op diet due for surgery next tues 14th, i just have to stay focused till then, your body gradually gets use to the lack of food i had migraines for days, a grumpy moo for days lol god help ppl around me and starving was totally the word for me haha! By about the 4th day my stomach had shrunk a little and it got easier the hardest part for me is preparing my childrens dinner knowing i cant have none. I have lost 19kilo's on my pre op 40lbs which has shocked me as i really didnt think i could do this, i wish you the best of luck :D
