What is Bandster Hell?

I'm new to this, so forgive me. My surgery is next Tues, Dec. 7th....YaY!!! But would someone explain to me about bandster hell so I know what to expect. Thanks....

I dunno... but I was banded a week and 1/2 ago and I feel like I could eat a sub, no problem. No restriction whatsoever. So far, no nausea/heartburn/tummy ache... NOTHING! I know it's in there cuz I have the scars to prove it. LOL.

I don't know if the term is for something specific, but I can tell you what mine is! It's when I am at a restaurant and take a bite of something and it gets stuck - that has been happening to me with chicken lately so I am switching to soups or fish. That panicked feeling of "Oh crap, I know what's coming next". I have to excuse myself from the table and go stand over the commode, in pain, until it gets unstuck/purged. Then getting back to the table and having to tell all the worried faces that I am ok! Not to mention, my plate is cold and lunch is over (keeps me from eating too much!). I hope you don't ever have to experience "Bandster Hell" and that your journey is a good one! Keep us posted on your progress!

From what I understand, it is before you have restriction and you are starving because you are sticking to the Dr's diet.

Bandster hell is that period of time inbetween surgery and when you have restriction. You've had the surgery but still have to work harder to limit your eating. Fortunately you will still not be able to eat the volume you did before surgery but it is a tough time.

I am having surgery on the 7th as well. Still trying to learn all of this myself but that one story above where it gets stuck and she panicks sounds horrible. That is my biggest fear

I know, right!!!! My Bariatric team has already well educated us on what not to eat to keep things from getting stuck. Actually, it's that they probably didn't chew it good enough. She said to chew, chew, and chew again and you should have no problems. But everyone is different. Glad to see a fellow Dec. 7th bandster, 6 days to go.....whoo hoo.....I've lost 6 lbs already being on this pre-op diet. We're not required to do liquid until the first week post-op so now it's a high protein, low-carb diet. Keep in touch and let me know how everything goes for you.

That's what I don't want to happen. Did you chew your food thoroughly? That's what they say to do, but I guess there are those times where it could happen. I was told not to eat the breast because it would be too dry and could possibly get stuck so I hope you weren't eating chix breast. Anyhoo, how's it going for you so far? How much weight have you lost? Do you like the results you're seeing?

Forgive me if this is a double post, my first one isn't showing. It was chicken breast and I did not cho-cho-cho, so the advice you are getting is right on! I was banded on 7/28/10 and have lost 50lbs with about 20 more to go. I can't even put in to words the change this has made in me! I feel like a brand new person. I am more outgoing, I dress nice (my 14 year old son even commented on it!) and I smile and give thanks to God every day! Not to mention the health changes I am experiencing! I am actually looking forward to my next physical (I have not had one in over 2 years for fear of what the Dr would say). I have a much healthier relationship with food now...took me almost 50 years and surgery....but I am getting there! The best of luck on your decision, please keep us posted!

It's been almost three years since I've been banded, lost 100 lbs. Please do not be fearful of this lapband hell they describe, everyone reacts differently and in large part these difficulties are determined by what you eat. Even if you do have to "get sick", it is almost like a burb and you'll feel immediately better. This really changed my entire life and I congratulate you on making this decision.
